Re: Nitro Ball PAL chip replacement
I just looked in the mame-0149 ROM set and unfortunately 16L isn't dumped. They have the fusemap for JN-00 @ 17L which is the only PLD they seemed to have dumped.

Re: Twin Cobra PCB (US, Romstar) Freeze
Am not near any PCBs at the moment but if the pin count is correct then they're all wired the same on the inside. Just like people
Losing half/much of the GFX and still having the game run would make the interboard connectors my first port of call definitely.

Re: Twin Cobra PCB (US, Romstar) Freeze
I would remove and reseat the interboard connectors a few times. I've had a number of TCs which seemed terminal and this often fixes them without having to start scoping out the 68k. Not sure why but they seem to suffer from dodgier than average IDC cables. You could also try setting DSW1-3 and DSW2...

Hi. If you have no luck with this post back and I'll try dumping it for you. From a quick look it seems as though it's probably doing some address decoding so it ought to be a reversible type.

Re: Question to the techies: How are rom chips mapped?
On the CPS1 hardware some of the B boards are setup to use 16 bit wide EPROMs and others use 8 bit wide (27512 or 27010 IME). You are right about how a 16 bit system interfaces with 8 bit wide ROM or RAM. Just stack a pair of chips, common the address bus and control signals and then have one delive...

Re: BREAKING: SuperPang has committed suicide!
I've fixed a few of these for chums and you can do it with the absolute minimum of modification which is always nice :) On one I found an inverted colour tile on the title screen and spent *ages* hunting it down but I wasn't ever able to identify the cause so if you do/don't see this I'd be interest...

Re: CPS2 advice
The CPU has a bit of RAM built in to it which stores decryption keys that it needs to run the game code. The RAM can keep its contents as long as long as a battery is applied, but it obviously consumes a tiny amount of power to do this. Over 10+ years the batteries eventually run flat or drop below ...

Re: New MAK/Supergun: Various problems...
Hiya phil, The fan not spinning up could be expected behaviour depending on how it was designed so I wouldn't worry about that at the moment. There is definitely an issue with the internal speaker part though. I'd bet that every time the audio cuts out on internal speakers something is getting very ...

Re: New MAK/Supergun: Various problems...
Hi phil, Do you have two speakers wired together in the supergun? Most of the arcade board amps were very similar to car stereo amps and are generally happy with a range of impedances but I'm wondering whether you've got two speakers wired in series (spk+ to terminal 1 speaker 1, terminal 2 speaker ...

Re: Help with GQ-4X w/ adapter
As I mentioned before I really don't think you have a problem blanking them. They're reading as 0xFF which is what a properly blanked EPROM will read as. If you want to be certain that you can completely eradicate this as a possible cause, read a blanked one in and see whether the file is just 0xFF....

Re: Help with GQ-4X w/ adapter
0xFF is what an erased UV EPROM will read as, so this suggests that the chip is wiped OK but is resisting programming. You program a UV EPROM by grounding each memory cell which will take it to a bit 0 so it seems to me that the failure is in dropping the UV induced charge. I don't recall seeing a p...

It looks like corrosion of some kind to me, but not from the caps. The whiter parts of the brown deposits look like a reaction product. I'd get a refund - I can only see that becoming more of a problem
Shame as its a great game.

Hi dude, That looks like standard 0.1" pitch connector. I buy strips of the plastic from Maplin and a handful of the pins, solder/crimp to my wires and then slide the pin inside the housing. http://www.maplin.co.uk/0.1-series-socket-housing-1490" I can't be 100% certain from that image that it is 0....

Impressive dude! Only half way through the first half of arcade mode video, but you can play *and* narrate. When I'm going for a high score on Star Wars, my tongue is firmly poking out and it's all I can do to remember to blink. The game looks sweet too so I think I might track it down for my Neo. C...

Guys,
It's a hobby. We do it for fun and enjoyment. So what if you don't want to touch yours, he wants to use a pot, and the other guy makes something on stripboard?
We're not deciding the leader of the free world here, we're meant to be having fun

Nope, not against the rules. You're not making it into something it isn't or enabling others to do the same. There's no reason why you can't post full details if you chose to. I can see this wouldn't be to everyone's taste but it's quite interesting all the same.
Cheers
