Question regarding the proper B+ setting on these chassis.

Post by LWK »

Recapped chassis, they work and look good, but I wanna make sure the B+ is what it is supposed to be set to.

Nanao MS8-29FAK
Nanao MS9-29S
Hitachi GMK-FS3

Any advice on test points helps also. I did a search and found the setting to be like 92 or something for another Nanao MS8. That should apply here correct?

ms8-29 is 94 volts
ms9-29 is 75 volts
i do not know the hitachi b+

on the nanao chassis you will need to use a capacitor negative as common when reading b+

Nanao MS9-29 is now reading like 75.5 volts. It was 82, so I lowered it. Now I gotta adjust the pin. MS8 Should be a breeze. I did what someone else did and measured it off a capacitor. c953.. I actually just soldered these bumb leads I made out of hard wire to it, so I could modify it. The MS8 will be easier due to the fact it's done off a fuse.

So I have some new issue where I just kept trying to adjust the pots to fix that barrel/pin issue and with the B+ set at 75, it wasn't possible to do. I had top edge distortion no matter how I tweaked the appropriate pots.. So I have it at 85 now, and with the adjustments and the screen looks much better, but I don't know how I can get it lower. I upgraded one of the 180uf 100v caps to a 220uf. You think it might justify the B+ being higher, or is this thing gonna be go bad on me in no time? The bottom right side has slight inward barreling, could that just be convergence, and something I can't fix with a pot?

Hey grant. I got the distortion handled almost perfectly. The side barreling is so minor now, when I fill the screen it doesn't bug me.. My multimeter battery is going bad, so adjusting it was sort of stupid. I realized something though. The voltage revealed itself.. I saw on start up and it was 79. When I turn off my multimeter you can see 30 volts draining for the thing to relax. At one point it was reading like 101 or something. I could just have a bad meter for now, because the low battery symbol was lighting up. I dont seen any screen shaking issues, no stranger then usual noise on the chassis. Currently, I'm happy with it.
