Need general cab advice - All candy related
Right so,
I sold all my cabs and all my boards and boy do I hate myself now lol.
I figured I would get a new cab but I need some advice on the following:
I'm not too hot on the idea of getting a CRT tube again, so was thinking LCD cab either a lindy, vewlix, or one of the chinese vewlix clones basically whatever mo has in UK.
What I wanted to do was run MAme on it for an easy life but I wondered if anyone is already doing this and if so are you getting excessive screen tearing and do the 15khz games look good enough
too justify playing them on an LCD. Is anyone using a scanline generator on them, if so how does it look?
I know I can't tate the lindy which pushes me even closer to the Chinese clones... Thoughts?

You can make an LCD look good without faff BUT you'll need a screen with particularly high PPI, which none of those cabs will have. On a lower resolution screen everything is a compromise and needs to be tweaked per title to look "good".

Thanks for feedback sounds like there really is no happy medium to me in that case, as it would mean replacing any monitor on those machines then.
Back to drawing board for now then maybe.

I know what cools is talking about, I'm sure there's info in the groovy thread, but I thought SLGs were a good fit for a 720 screen as it's 3x?
Edit: I'm forgetting arcade boards aren't all 240p. Ignore me
Mo has some mame friendly CRT cabs

Aye the blasts and NNCs should vga in but I REALLY and I mean REALLY want to stay away from CRTS. The faff involved with keeping an 20 year old CRT running is not something I'm after like.markedkiller78 wrote:I know what cools is talking about, I'm sure there's info in the groovy thread, but I thought SLGs were a good fit for a 720 screen as it's 3x?

Re: Need general cab advice - All candy related
Hello,
last year i made my own Neo Geo Bartop.
This Bartop had a original MVS Mainboard + an LCD with 3 ms reaction time , a rgb vga scaler and a scanlinegenerator (slg3000).
The LCD is very bright so i used grey float glas (to put some bright).
The look was ok, but theres no chance to take it to an tube look.
there was my block with pictures:

I sold it last week.
Now i take a cheap ok Baby Cab(200€), take a new Grundig Tube (from TV,10€), and this combo easy match up with the expensive candys.

Even if you do get an LCD with enough PPI to get the look right, it simply won't behave and tickle your retinas the same way a CRT does.
Buy an Astro, a 100V stepdown, and get the chassis sent to Grant for an overhaul.

Re: Need general cab advice - All candy related
I think the op really means, he REALLY wants a CRT
This is a bad place to ask about LCD cabs. We are not exactly representative of all arcade enthusiasts. The answer will always be buy a candy.
On consumer CRTs, yes the PQ is better, but arcade monitors have their charms
Edit: i still think a blast or NNC at current prices, assuming the monitor is good, is a good buy for an all rounder

This is so true. I also try to use it on my other half when she says she doesn't want any more arcade cabs in the house.markedkiller78 wrote:The answer will always be buy a candy.

I've had the MS8 and the one which comes i the Naomi 2931 iirc. They were lush maybe ill just have to man up and deal with the **** a CRT brings with it.
I miss my astro, why did I sell them all
You are all right, it will have to be a CRT.
