well done malc :) getting to stage 6 on one credit with a decent score is when the game really starts getting difficult & disheartening

people who think ibara is tough don't know the heartbreak of dying on stage 6 with bombs in stock, or losing the medal chain on your way to the last boss. my only advice is concentrate on surviving the 1st half and have 1 hadou ready for the midboss. the first half is definitely more difficult than the 2nd, lots of things to be careful for like popcorn enemies appearing from the clock and flying into you from underneath etc, and you can get distracted thinking too much about saving bombs for the last boss that you lose 1 or 2 lives in quick succession. i would also say work on getting good at stage 5 and the stage 5 boss, so every time just play til the end of the game now if that takes 2-3 credits etc. can you do the hadou trick on stage 5? even if it takes 2 hadous it's seriously worth learning, and only use 1 hadou on the gold rush over the bridge, even if it means ending the medal chain sooner. ideally you wanna be starting stage 6 with at least one "insurance" life and at least 1 hadou

i've played a lot of sf2 last year. girlfriend has an ipad now so i'm tempted to copy mark/exmos and put up some vids of different shmups and stuff, mainly for my own benefit because i forget a lot of the patterns that i use. we're also playing a lot of console games together :oops: just about to finish skies of arcadia, then start baiten katos or tales of symphonia. i wanna go back to ibara soon, if i can get an F score i think i'd be satisfied enough to put it to bed finally

No kidding. I didn't think it was possible to clear ibara with a 5m score. In would have though the rank would have been through the roof by level 6?

Any tips you can offer on a low score 1cc?

Rank was extremely low on stage 6 with the way I managed it.
There are three key elements to the low rank play.
1. Do not collect medals
2. Do not collect many of the "stronger" power-ups early in the game, and don't collect access power-ups for score.
3. Keep your lives no greater than 2

I'll attempt to break it down best I remember.
Stage 1: die once or twice on the boss and defeat her with under a million points
Stage 2: die again, get first extend, get flame thrower near end of stage, hadou-cannon boss final form
Stage 3: get some rockets or napalm, avoid many powerups, hadou-cannon when three trains appear, hadou final boss form
Stage 4: start stage with 1.8 mil, get score extend early and 1-up from midboss, easy end boss fight
Stage 5: avoid lots of rockets, hadou left side of screen for the medal rush (AND DON'T COLLECT THEM), hadou die and hadou boss a bunch
Stage 6: I think I started it with 0 or 1 life and over 4 mil points, hadou midboss, hadou Theresa's first form and got an extend, did some crazy dodges on her second form but eventually died... which gave me another hadou :wave:

Got the clear tonight and beat my best MAME score (only got the PCB recently), so figured it was time to put something up here.

Thanks. :oops:

Just having a blast at the moment. It felt like a mighty achievement to the level 2 boss. Managed it with 2 lives + an extra once. Lost them all in a row. :problem:

The level 2 boss is one of the toughest parts of the game imo. You seem to be doing very well so far :awe:

Stage 2 boss is likely to be a wall for a while, work on getting max medals in stage 1 asap. That way, in stage 2 you can get tons of points from the oil silos (by bombing when you are on top of them).

Or you could just dodge and shoot stuff, and occasionally hadou a boss :ryu:

Also, figure out which Type (A, B, C, D) ship you prefer.

A= start
B= A+start
C= B+start
D= A+B+start

The way their options control is totally different, as is their speed and bombs.

D is my preferred ship, it's the fastest.

I know I used to struggle with the L2 boss, but once you get it down, it's a cake walk with 1 spare life and / or a hafou for form 2.
