Does just pressing down on it stop the noise?

A little, but not much. The PCB flexes a hell of a lot. Not tried supporting it while putting pressure on. I'll have another go at the PSU this weekend.

Managed to get the glue off without breaking anything and desoldered the transformer. Wrapped 20 layers of insulation tape tightly around the coil and the ferrite and strapped a cable tie around the ferrite. It's cut the noise level by about 50%. Still there but should be tolerable inside the cab for now.

Got the whole cab screwed back together and I'm only missing one screw on the hood. :awe:

Sealing strip arrived today. It's denser than the original so I hope it compresses enough. I've cleaned up that whole area of the cab ready.

Still need the dimensions of the mounting board! :shifty:

Regarding polishing - my Greygate isn't touching stuff at the moment, going to need something coarser first and some power assistance. I've read that Tripoli Brown compound and a buffing wheel will help - but am I likely to send compound flying around the room doing this or does it stay helpfully on the wheel at low speeds?

Ordered a set of big bottles of Novus 1,2,3. I'm probably safer polishing slowly by hand over a long period of time than trying to do it in one hit with power tools...

Use a car buffer lightly & you will be fine.

you only get issues when you apply too much pressure or it's a soft metalic paint. The latter gits swirls in it that look awful in certain light.

Concern isn't for the plastics, it's for the mess I'd make using it in a living room environment based on previous experiments

Yer it does spray everywhere, as well as that fibre/material comes off the mop as you work and that makes a right mess too. You need to keep applying water to make it work properly which increases the messiness. The results are great though, I just polished the NNC surround last night by coincidence.

You don't have you room sheeted?

It splatters all over the place. I've only done it outside (and to cars)

Strangely, now I've hooked the speakers up the noise is being amplified. I'm wondering if it's the motherboard causing it somehow?

Without speakers - noise only from PSU
With speakers - noise from PSU and from speakers. Altering the volume alters the noise level from the speakers.

Doesn't sound like mains buzz, but no - cab is not earthed properly yet.

I had a 4 slot that caused a lot of audio noise on my Neo 19 (or was it the SC25? ). No PSU noise though.

You wouldn't notice the PSU noise unless the speakers were unplugged... Interesting you've mentioned that, I've had no trouble with this board in a Pony (that's JAMMA wired to spec and grounded properly).

Anyway, got some ply cut and drilled today. If anyone wants a fresh Neo 19 mounting board send me a PM, I made two :D

Er, I'll get it for you next time I have the hood off. Mine has the Hitachi monitor in it. It's definitely a touch larger than the Cute monitor.
