My gaming goes round in cycles, and my last Saturn spell was 2014. Fortunately I bought all the expensive stuff I wanted a long time ago, so decided to buy common games I missed at the time, or games I hadn't played in a long time (not since the days of **** PAL conversions). Daytona USA CE for £4.07, Nights for £5.00 (Christmas Nughts £4.00), Sega Rally Championship Plus (has analogue pad support) for £7.99 (I also got a copy of the original version for £1.57), Panzer Dragoon £4.50, Manx TT Superbike for £5.79 and even Astal for £7.82. Bargain. My biggest expense was Burning Rangers at £14.06.
Next time I plan on starting with Sonic-R as it's not too bad pricewise.

Hardcore retrogaming is damned expensive. Even compared to Arcade gaming (save for Cave stuff and Cadillac's and Dinosaurs).

On the plus side, it makes my collection worth a lot more than I paid for it.

Reading this makes it look like I use a database of some sort to keep track of my games. We truly live in the time of the nerd, although I still feel a little ashamed admitting it.

Ahh yes, 100 monkeys effect. I too have been a bit bored lately and decided to look at some Saturn games to flesh out my collection. I'm not even looking at the rare ones (because I have most of them already :P) and even the former cheap ones are approaching "aww hell no!" prices!
Psone as well! I'm just glad I work backwards and buy the rare ones first back in the day.

I swear down, once we think of it others are too. That or the whole retro scene is blowing up again, not just Saturn games.

I think Elevator Action Returns has been the worst in price increase.
When I sold my collection 18 months ago I sold it mint with spine for £50, it's £250-400 now :wtf:
Can get the arcade cart for less lol.

After getting sick of buying stuff online from Ebay sellers that lie about the condition of the items and wishing I could just go out and find something nice despite hating PAL conversions I decided to do something about the situation.

1) I'm trimming my collection to just things I actually play, so I will have the extra cash to buy those games I really want for my collection, and...

2) I Started to collect VHS tapes. You can find stuff for cheap from thriftstores and whatnot and PAL isn't such a big deal. I'd rather pay 50 Cents for a tape I found locally than pay 10 Euros including shipping for something I won't play longer than 30 minutes. (that's usually what happens with non-fighting games)

..now my only gripe is having a pile of stuff I want to get rid of.

@ trev1976.

It's right through the scene prices have gone insane, have a look and see what Harmful Park goes for now :wtf:

Not sure if prices will ever come down again, but a game's only worth what your willing to pay. Am a bit gutted that I sold so much stuff (like some other guys on here) but hey ho.

I've been buying some original X-Box games lately , trying to stay one step ahead I suppose..

Yeah I've sold so much stuff I wish I still had.. especially Saturn,Neo Geo and PCB's.

I think I'm going to start collecting for Wii before it gets too crazy.

Wii prices are starting to rise on certain games already, check out Fire Emblem or Dokapon but to be fair there are still loads of bargains to be had atm.

So you started collecting pornography now? Makes sense as you won't play these longer than 30 minutes, too. :P

Now serious:
Those inflated prices seem to be a worldwide phenomenon, like the $1000 Dogyuun PCB thats on Yahoo. I have the feeling that I'm getting priced out of my hobby, be it 8-bit to Dreamcast era console games or arcade stuff. Not a nice thing to realize. :(

I slowed my retro game collecting a couple of years ago because prices were getting too much back then. I was still looking up the odd bit until early this year. When I checked the prices of some of my PC Engine stuff I nearly fell off my chair. JP Magical Chase selling for almost £400 at auction!? I'm thinking it might be time for me to start offloading my stuff.

Yeah, this is really strange. I paid 25 € (with obi) for mine.
It is a pity that I don't got Garegga some years ago. Mega Drive and Saturn is really expensive these days, sigh.

(Japanese) Videogame collecting sucks in 2016.

Thime to start playing again rather than collecting (or get better paid jobs that mean you can collect, but not play)

It's all getting a bit ridiculous now

Well, right now, collecting weird German porn on VHS seems more appealing than paying big bucks for retro games. I'm serious when I say that non-fighting games usually don't hold my interest for longer than 30 minutes. I don't play games to relax, I guess? Your turn for another porn joke. :whoopsie:

Hah I know what you mean, it's crazy! I can't believe how much Pal Snes games go for these days, back in the early 90's Pal games were the least desirable versions to have! I kinda regret getting rid of all my original games when I sold them off in the early 2000's but thinking logically flash carts are the perfect solution for rom type games. It's not as if they're anolog copies and the experience is downgraded, it's technically the read-deal. It's psychological that you need the original to enjoy the game. I am currently going original hardware and Everdrive route these days and I'm playing games on original hardware that I couldn't afford to play if I went for originals. And for CD games I just go the CR-R route, it's super easy to find the ISOs these days so why not. £300+ for a CD game is just crazy when the iso plays exactly the same.

Why is it always German porn thats called weird? It's perfectly normal getting aroused by yodeling and lederhosen :shifty:

Ok - now the porn joke:
I get what you mean by not playing games to relax. I dig STG because of the engaging 1P experience which exhausts me after a couple of minutes. Image

Am finding myself doing this more as prices rise, but there's some games I just need to have the physical copy :(

Problem is CD-Rs are hard on the lenses. Id rather emulate those than putting strain on a irreplaceable disc drive. Or maybe I'm too burnt on failing lasers. (see what I did there :awe: )
