PS2 2D Fighting Games

Post by ShadowDancer »

(any region)

What PS2 2D fighting games would you recommend? from the obvious to the obscure...

I recently bought some SNK games on in, which will probably keep me going for a life time....

but looking for something other than just SNK...

3rd Strike is on my list to buy...maybe arcana heart 2....I'm hoping someone can throw up a few surprises...

Would definitely be interested in games with any game modes apart from the norm...

Still quite a novice on this subject and never delved any further than Street Fighter/Neo Geo/Capcom Fighters...

Thank You :-)

PS2 3rd Strike has a bug regarding Yang's SA meter. So, keep that in mind. He's not a valid character in that version.

When it comes to "obscure" fighting games on the PS2, they're pretty much all 3D.

If we go by anything that's not by Capcom or SNK...

-Guilty Gear games, as kernow already mentioned XX
-Melty Blood games
-Shin Gouketsuji Ichizoku: Bonnou Kaihou (has an exclusive extra character, unfortunately)
-Spectral VS Generation

Arcana Heart - Is supposed to be good. But I never understood what I was doing. Maybe I should've spent more than 15 minutes on it

If you can play imports and nerdy customising of little pudgy wrestling people appeal - Fire Pro Returns really is something different.

Otherwise in the more familiar, but still a bit different, category I'd second Hokuto no Ken.

[Also on psn via ps2 classics with an american account/psn card - once installed you can play from your regular uk account].

My main PS2 is a NTSC-J Console.
I like the look of Hokuto no Ken though....

Can I change the question slightly...are there any 2d fighters that utilise the PS2's 128 bit capability...
Currently playing Neo Geo Fighters....as yes they are great..been playing a lot of KOF 99 Evo..now playing Garou..
just wouldn't mind something eye candy...I think the Hotoku no Ken Game is...maybe the Power instinct game?

Again...thank you for recommendations...

I personally think that some of the prettiest 2d fighters on the ps2 are the guilty gear games. Especially some of the later ones. (The one with the seperate update disc? GGxx+reload/hyper++$) or something...

+1 for fist of the North Star.

Obviously 3rd strike, alpha anthology and anniversary edition are all classics imo.
