Not particularly. It's okay for a quick go, but it doesn't make you want to play it again.

For me King of Route 66 is the best out of all the "odd" Sega games.

Not yet, as other reproduction OutRun2 art has recently been targeted by profiteers on eBay. They will be available to those who need them one way or another, still deciding exactly how to proceed.glstar wrote:Oh great...

Let me know because i'm finishing a conversion in the next few weeks....
Just waiting for the red monitor sides and a monitor to replace mine (that is not so good) and i'm ready....
I already have the seat and monitor sides original artwork from Andy....
While i have many of the italian instructions stickers, so no problem there too....

I only miss yours and both sides of the cab...

I'll be doing a small print run of these and possibly base sides too (if they are ready in time) in August. After that they'll either be for sale via AGS or uploaded to the wiki for anyone to print as they see fit.

Nice work Jamie, they look good. They always look a little weird side by side as the text looks either stretched or squashed, depending how you look at it, but for anyone not in the know this is what the originals are like.
I'll try to get a decent scan of the NOS base side decals tomorrow
Not sure how they'll look though as the scanner might have a fit with the reflective foil backing!

Yeah the text style is Segas fault, I just matched it as close as I could.
Base side scans would be great, doesn't matter too much what they look like, I just need to know what size each element needs to be so I can redraw everything.

Another bit done then
You can thank Gary for all this stuff, he had the foresight to get any artwork while you could still actually find it!

Re: Spectre's Manly Mancave - Now with NNC and OutRun2!
Back to the cab, did a little speaker repair today. Unfortunately one of my gullbox speakers seemed to be dead and was rattling inside the case, so I opened her up last week to take a look.

Initially I couldn't work out how to get in the damn thing, as with all screws removed the speaker was still sealed. Seems the top cover is glued on, so I wedged a flat screwdriver in the groove and hammered it to prize the two halves apart. Once open, I discovered the source of the rattle, a lollypop stick and a dead bee.
The speaker was definitely dead, despite cosmetically seeming ok. A quick scout round the web found me a replacement gullbox for 45euros + shipping (http://www.arcadeinvaders.com"), but I decided to take a look on eBay to see if I could just replace the speaker itself. I found a Hong Kong seller with speakers that looked remarkably similar and with matching spec and dimensions, so for a measly £5.83 I decided to take a punt.

Fast forward to today and the new speaker arrived. As you can see they are a very close match and the mount is identical, so the speaker fits the gullbox mounting holes perfectly.

Unfortunately there is a slight difference where the new speaker is flush to the mount, with the sega one recessed. As a result the case doesn't quite close properly, although I was able to reduce this by removing some trim off the new speaker with a stanley knife. I could dremmel the front half of the gullbox to make the speaker sit flush, but as it all stayed together nicely when the screws where put back in, I didn't see the point.

The repaired speaker back on the seat. Works like a charm and sounds exactly the same as the original speaker on the other side. Tempted to replace the speaker on the other side now too, just to have a new and matching pair. If anybody else is interested in the replacement speaker, look up eBay seller "sicilydreamer" and "5W 8 Ohm Aluminum Housing Oval Internal Magnet Speaker".

Re: Spectre's Manly Mancave - Now with NNC and OutRun2!
Excellent stuff
Good to see the scans being used - I didn't want to make them available while good people were still selling originals, but the time seems right now as it appears almost all NOS stuff has dried up. The base sides look amazing, personally I'm a fan of originality but the logo is nice. Middle one is probably the nicest as it doesn't overdo the italian flag colours.. hmm, but I really like that crest version of the logo on the third one..
If I'm nitpicking the part number normally goes on the other end of the sticker and it probably won't have the UK addition as these are Japanese. No part number on my originals though, not even the usual tag that you get with Japanese art
Of course this is all very well but didn't you forget something? I don't see a page full of watermarks??!

Re: Spectre's Manly Mancave - Now with NNC and OutRun2!
Liking the speaker mod too - these gullboxes are well and truly stuck together aren't they! I have a few empty boxes from initialD cabs I could fill with speakers now thanks to your successful scouting mission!
So you put a flat head screwdriver between the two halves and just hit it? I'm amazed the whole thing didn't crack, but I guess you had nothing to lose anyway
