Kevs - 2 Sega Naomi Restore Threads - Std and Gun Cab

Hey all,

Finally getting a chance to work on these Cabs, It be slow and Steady and might take whole Summer at best,
But Finally enough Started to begin a Restore Log. Bare in Mind, All my Cabs are stored Downstairs,
From Sitting Room, to Hallways, to Toilet and Kitchen aka my workspace I NEED a SHED

I was mad for an Egret 2 as first Candy Cab,
And while I previously never liked Naomi's I saw in Arcades locally, I have now grow to love them.
From forums I have learnt how versatile they are, can put 4 types MB in them, netDimm and Xbox 360.

Thanks to Many so far, Spectre, Purplec, Jackalus, FrancoB, Richy13, CPS2 and Giz10 & Andygeezer for Parts,
And many here from FrancoB, AndyPC, Paulie and more for inspiration to get these Cabs.

Naomi Cab 1 - April 2012 - Virtua Tennis Cab
Pros
- Very Cheap
- Delivered Cheap
- All Wiring and MB, all Perfect.

Cons
- Forgot Naomi Marquee when delivering - Couldnt source one yet
- Lots of Rust
- No PSU
- No Screen
- CP in bad shape and inside beyond flithy!!!

Naomi Cab 2 - June 2012 - Confidential Mission Gun Cab
Pros
- Decent Price
- Near perfect bar Repaint needed for CP and little touch up needed on Base.
- 99% parts working
- Comes with Naomi 1 and Working GDROM

Cons
- Guns CP needs Artwork, no biggy
- Guns Part floor, bit worn but happy with considering age.
- BIGGEST Con by far finding out it was a 15k Monitor (Nanao MS9-29SU Chassis M68JUA068X which I believe is High Res tube???)
- Cant install my Spare Xbox 360 in here, was perfect as nothing in CP side, and 2 spare 360 Hackpads and Spare 14 button New Net City CP
- 1 of 10 Gun LEDs Broken - LED BD GUN SENSE HOT
- I/O Error Naomi MB not found - (Fixed USB Cable got damaged in Transport)

SUMMER PLAN and PARTS Bought so far

Cab 1 - White one
Okey so Plan was to install Naomi 2 MB and NetDimm into White Cab. Along with Xbox 360.
Chop the Legs and respray, I LOVE AndyPCs, Gloss Back restore, i know its not purest but I love it, especially for a Cab that will reside in Living room.
Also Install FULL New NET CITY Kit and CP with 6 Buttons Per Player, Like Kit Shown Below

Cab 2 - Red One - Guns
But when Naomi Gun Cab came, really wanted to use this for Xbox 360
and dual with Another Naomi 2 Netdimm, so can load up other Gun Cabs, like HoD2, Maze, CMission, etc...
As not 31K Monitor, may yet MAME this as CP area is Empty, use Yellow and Red NNC CP below and Dual as Gun Cab
TBD!!! Suggestions welcome (Should I switch Monitors and keep all in good cab?)

UPDATE Work JUNE 26th:

Need to rewire White Naomis CP to new CP, but cant do that until it gets good Clean,
So finally got off my ****, and got over being afraid to take something apart incase cant get it back together.
So below is Pics of Current state of Parts not done and finally CPs partially Cleans until respray at least.

SO AFTER FINALLY Removing IO, Coin slot etc, I removed the CP.
I already Cleaned down Empty CMission Empty Gun CP last night and took HOURS with Toothbrush and cloth.
It would Kill me to do that all over again, especially as this CP is 100 times worst, balck with dirt, so me being lazy brought it to Carwash
and I POWER-HOSED the BeJesus out of the CP, Save me few hours and now can start putting CP back together so can start testing Naomi MB and NetDimm.


Power-hosed one on the left. Was in horrid State.
Hand Cleaned on Right, But had a lot less dirt on it.


Now must Reattached to these Naked Naomis :

BUT These are CABS I Aspire too, Especially Andys Black Naomi, its the reason I bought one in 1st place.
Plus not crime to change white one I have, its in terrible condition and Ive saved it from the skip.

Thanks All appreciate the comments, Hopefully over next 3-4 weeks ill hammer out most of it,
Hard part was dismanting White Naomi, as was clueless, but really couldnt been any easier, now I know why the Called LEGO cabs,
and now know how one of mates dismantle one and brought it hope in boot of a Ford Fiesta

LoRz ya CM very nice Cab, well its 1000 times better condition than my other project Cab, I love the Red in it, looks well as a cab.
Hopefully the game will be good now too

This Week Aim is: (CP, MB and Play Games)
1 Wireup WhiteNaomi to New Control panel AND to extra Button Harness,
Least then can play Some Games for a Change
2 Replace Bios in Naomi 2 and see can I get that Working with few Carts I have for VF4 and VS3
3 Get NETDIMM Installed and working, CANT WAIT, if that goes well ill be getting there
4 Play Some Xbox 360 SFIV:AE and such with Hackpad.

Next Week (Paint):
5 All going well dismantle CP again and strip here down and get here Resprayed
6 Also Respray CM CP and Maybe Bezel just so that Match same red 100%
7 Get and Replace CM, 1 of 10 Gun Sense LEDs, then PLAY SOME CM.

Also:
8 CM, as its 15k MS9, thinking might wire it for Namco JVS -> Jamma type setup.
9 DUAL Cab of Naomi Shooter and JAMMA - See possible to NETDIMM House of Dead 2 and such
10 Got some extra Wiring for Cabs Coming, Install these too, Separate Power Switch for Naomi MB + Voltimeter.

June 27th:

Part 1 - INSTALL HARDWARE - PSU - MB - Monitor

Having already installed missing sun PSU few weeks ago. (Cab had none when I got it)
I also tested Naomi 1 MB and Monitor and all fine.

Replaced BIOS in Naomi 2 MB.
Now has EPR-23605C - Japan BIOS
Now happily runs with VF4 and VTennis 1.

But game I was really looking forward to Virtua Striker 3 wont load.
Load error, maybe board not in place correctly as same issue with other carts.
Now 1st Naomi 2 MB I got wouldn’t boot up, maybe VS3 cart was busted at same time I don’t know?
Would it be worth screwing in the Cart, more pressure on connections on some carts help at all?

Error 01
Display: THIS GAME IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BY MAIN BOARD.
Cause: The ROM BOARD (or DIMM BOARD) is not connected correctly to the MAIN BD. The NAOMI 2 ROM board is mounted on the NAOMI main board.
Countermeasures: First, turn power off, connect the ROM BD (or DIMM BOARD) correctly.
If the status is not improved yet, the board may be malfunctioning. The NAOMI 2 ROM board software cannot run with the NAOMI main board.
If you want to run the NAOMI 2 ROM board software, replace the NAOMI main board with the NAOMI 2 main board.

2 Heard some people remove MB Cover entirely and unplugged 1/2 Fans, Plus this might help changing carts easier?

Part 2 – CONTROL PANEL!!!
27th June 2012

Before I go any further I wanted to test out my motherboards and carts etc.
As its now months since bought NetDimm and other parts and haven’t tested it yet.

So to do this wanted a new CP working beforehand.
But to do CP I needed to have CP Filly cleaned down and with FINALLY done, can start progressing.

List jobs done today:
1 Removed old Rusted 2 Button CP
2 Cleaned and reattached IO, Coin Mech, Service\Test Buttons Parts (will repaint ASAP)
3 Cleaned 1P 2P Harnesses and Labeling.
4 Re-installed my New net City INLAY and Glass panel
5 Installed NET CITY HOT PLATE NOM-2005
6 Installed Sega Extra Button Loom for 6 Buttons!!! See Below
7 Installed 1 of 2 Xbox hackpads (only one of which has JVS Connectors,)
8 Installed Audio Phono Splitter and VGA so can dual Xbox 360/Naomi MB.

TODO:
1 Having a Separate Naomi MB power button Loom made for me. (Allow me to turn this on separate to rest of the Cab)
Easier to switch Carts and allow it to not bot when in Xbox 360 Mode
2 Having Naomi Multimeter Made and will installed this.
3 Must resprays Coin Mech and IO Metal cage.
4 Will remove all again and respray whole cab.
5 Need Naomi Marquee Holder
6 Install netDimm

Although the plug is a 10pin AMP connector, it plugs into the 15pin AMP connector on UK Naomi's.
This is how to wire the buttons when the extra button loom arrives.
For UK Naomi
Player 1 Button 4 = White/Red [1] Button 5 = White/Blue [2] Button 6 = White/Yellow [3] Gnd = White [5]
Player 2 Button 4 = White/Black [6] Button 5 = White/Grey [7] Button 6 = White/Orange [8] Gnd = White [10]

Thanks for the comments, really appreciated it it,
Just trying my best to keep going and not let project slow down at all,
just want it done ASAP so can put cab in final resting place and Play it as should be done.

So Updates 28th June:
WENT DRINKING and nite out on the town Much needed time off from Arcade Restore
29th Working and recovering

Sat 30th and Sun 1st July:
Spent weekend testing out My NETDIMM Board,
Took me all of two days to work out Software, Security Chips, Bios and Such, but finally all working and can play Some games:
I have it all linked to Laptop use frontend tool via WiFi Router, so just one click of button and loads up fine.

So far tested out few of following games:
- Virtua Tennis 2 (More characters to play as compared to VT1)
- Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Finally got to play this game, I played MvC1 loads on Mame cab and UMvC 3 for 360)
- Capcom Vs SNK 2 Millionaire Fighting 2001 (Really Enjoyed this one)
- Virtua Striker 3
(Loving this so far, massive improvment on VS2 v2000 & great to finally play as my VS3 Cart seems to not be working)
- Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upright
(Couldnt boot it, Japanese Bios I believe is needed, loved to have had this working but not to be)

Also Im looking fwd to playing some SHRUMPS, which will be new experience for me:
BorderDown, GigaWing2, G Rev and Zero Gunner. And Cannon Spike looks great too!!!
Wont be rotating screen, unless i get hooked down the line on Shrumps, never say never


NEXT:
Well above is huge relief off my shoulders, so next CHOP LEGS and Respray is on the cards.
I will need friends help with these parts, fingers crossed get this started next weekend.
Until Then I will spent week playing some games above and 360 games too.

Non Related Jamma Stuff Incoming:
I also have few bits coming this week, in particular NEGATON -5 to my JAMMA Cab,
and can finally play FAV Game, RASTAN which I bought of IPChappy, Thanks Buddy!!!! Cant wait.
Also got Jamma Switcher 6-1cComing, so throw in my MVS 1 Slot, few PCBs I have into Jamma Cab.

Naomi Related Incoming
Might have found the missing MARQUEE HOLDER from this Cab, and trying to get it posted down next week.
And LASTLY a big one, LEDs coming next week to fix 1 of 10 broken LED's in my Confidential Mission CAB
