Good 31khz VGA displays?

Post by Aryan »

Dont really know if this is the right section to post this so sorry if it isnt. Been looking for a good 31khz 480p VGA 4:3 display to get for a while for my dreamcast and 360, and couldnt find much information online about the topic. I know about the Nec XM29+, the Pioneer PDP-V400 series, and the Sony PVM L5's and FW900 but those tend to show up in the wild once in a blue moon and usually for absurd prices. Im just curious if anyone has had any good experience with some of the easier to find 31khz displays and if there is a certain brand/series they'd recommend? Something thats vibrant with a good display, easy to TATE and not under 24 or so inches? Kind of like the Bang and Olufsen MX7000 for 31khz?

Thanks

I was going to suggest a PC monitor, but yeah, you're not going to find any over 24".

There's the Sony PGM line of monitors which you can try to Google for.

The problem is all bigger 31khz monitors are pro monitors in the end and ergo somewhat elusive.

There are some vga capable consumer tv's from Grundig and Metz. The picture is very good with these. I have some 28" Metz and a few different types 29" from Grundig. I will tell you more tomorrow.

There was a Gateway VGA monitor that's basically a TV. But I think it was only sold in the US. There's also the Mitsubishi XC2930C (29") and its 37" sister model, which are rare but usually don't command very high prices. I got mine for free from Akuma.

Ok, the Grundig with VGA card included are:
Grundig M72 410 Reference (29", Chassis CUC1842, Toshiba curved tube A68LBT696X99, chassis to big for NAOMI cab but could be used in Astros I think)
Grundig Xentia MF 72-490 Dolby (29", Chassis CUC1832, Toshiba pure flat tube A68LQP356X97, fits nicely into a NAOMI cab)
There are others with VGA option, but you will need a VGA extention card for them.

I don´t know about availability of METZ TV´s in the UK, but here they are:
METZ KRETA-63 BM 63TM62 (25", chassis CH605, PHILIPS A59??? tube)
METZ LINEA BM 70TM67 (28", chassis CH605, PHILIPS A66 tube)
METZ LINEA DEL. 72 SF 72TK67 (29", chassis CH60G1,LG_PHILIPS A68ESF002X143/0 tube)
METZ ASTRAL-72 MF MK2 72TM79 (29", chassis CH605, LG_PHILIPS A68ERF182X44/M tube)
METZ SPECTRAL-72 MF 72TK80 (29", chassis CH603G1, PANASONIC A68ELR50X71 tube)

With the Metz TV´s you will need a special VGA to EURO Scart cable from Metz or you can build one yourself easily (I can give you the scematics).
There are more of the VGA capable METZ TV´s, if you like more infos, PM me.

All those TV´s are high quality. Especially the Grundig have a really nice picture.
