Messy magenetization and convergence
I have been trying to demag this monitor but cant happen to get it right, it is like a freaking rainbow, no matter how many times I use the magnet, one third is red and with a round shadow, the mid third is ok and the last one is all green. Besides, convergence in the center is fine but close to the edges is a nightmare. Any clue how to tackle this? I have been playing with the back rings and this is the best I've been able to do:

Has the tube been dropped?

Re: Messy magenetization and convergence
Not that I know. I just turned it off and moved the yoke a bit and took out the neck board and it improved considerably. Geometry problems are still there but that obnoxious mag has disappeared. For some reason the yoke is not really fixed to the tube and can be moved by hand. Is that normal or it shouldn't move at all?

The yoke shouldn't move easily.

I think it is just the chasis, that is a piece of S**t. Its a pity cause the Toshiba tube has really good image. Any options for 19" chasis out there?

The yoke being loose won't affect the colors in that way.
It's not the chassis either.
Do you have an external degausser?

So for placing the yoke right, is there a correct way to do it? I have been moving it while turned on but not a big ban of playing with that thing while turned on, stopped doing, too scared of electricity.

Ok, will try to push it as close as possible, but I´m afraid of breaking the neck. This chasis is just too bad, need a replacement. Thanks Grant, once again.

Re: Messy magenetization and convergence
There's no way you'll break the neck as long as you push it towards the monitor. Make sure the clamp is loose! (it most likely is, since the yoke is moving)

Wear rubber gloves or something non-conductive also. There is high voltage across all those solder joints on the back of the neckboard and many other parts that you will be in close proximity to, and potentially coming in contact with.

Re: Messy magenetization and convergence
Yup thanks. I am letting this thing be until I am back home and buy some electrician gloves. Tried to use cleaning ones but lasted an afternoon. Thanks guys, monitors is the thing that scares me the most.
