Monitor discharge necesary

Post by qskint »

I'm going to look at a Blast City at the weekend and if I pick it up I'll be needing to take it apart to get it where I want it to go. This will be my first cab.

Is it absolutely necessary to discharge it before taking it out (hopefully I can lift it on my own) I've read yes and no so a bit confused? And which bits actually hold charge/shouldn't touch?
If I need to I'll buy a long screw driver and crocodile clips.

You don't need to discharge the monitor to take it out of the cabinet. The bit you don't want to be touching is the anode cap which is the thick cable that goes onto the monitor tube.

I think it also would be wise, not to touch the neck board and the chassis in the area around the flyback.
In case you just want to tate the monitor or put it out of the cab for storeing/transportation, there is no need for a discharge.

But discharging is so easy, why take risks?
