Polo chassis almost dead - faint tik sound from main transformer

Post by keropi »

Hiya!

Sadly my POLO 28" decided to die suddenly yesterday. It was working fine then after powering it on a couple of hours later it did a degauss but no image on tube. Power-cycled and it no longer does a degauss or lights up the tube. I can hear a faint tik-tik sound from the main transformer area:

My guess is that it shuts down. Caps are new and also the flyback/hot were changed since that picture was taken. I made an extension cable for the control board so I assumed maybe I cracked some joints with the removing/inserting since the pins are too tight - I could not find any cracks though. I did reflow several joints just in case but nothing helped.

So what can I check now? the HOT? Flyback (again!?) ... It just sucks

TIA for any help/tips!

with grantspain's guidance ImageImageImageImage the chassis is repaired. The HOT and a nearby R235 resistor were faulty and replaced. As per grantspain's recommendation also nearby polypropylene C172 and C174 were replaced. The result:
