Questions about Toshiba Trisync D29CQ51
I have the possibility to get a Toshiba D29CQ51 for about 400€, local pic up. What tube do they normaly come with? Looks like a flat one. No burn in I think. Convergence looks good but the picture was to pixelated, maybe a little off on the edges. Are they autosync? Is this a Toshiba PF or PFX? They normaly have D29CO51 chassis right?
EDIT: Do the D29CQ51 have all geometry options or do they have to be modded like the D29CO51? I would like to put it into my NAOMI instead of the SANWA, would I need a isolationtransformer or something? My SANWA is AC120V and 60Hz and this Toshiba says 100-120V and 50/60Hz, so I assume I don´t need a transformer, right. The monitor comes from a Net City.

Re: Questions about Toshiba Trisync D29CQ51
Great get.
It should have the Toshiba A68LTF356X FLAT tube.
(Some later versions had the Matsushita tube.)
I dont know what you mean with "too pixelated picture"?
It is auto sync 15-31kHz.
Its a Toshiba PF.
They have D29C051, K29CQ50, D29CQ55, D29C451, D29C358, yours and more.
The remote needs to be modded to get to the geo and rgb options.
I dont think you need a different transformer as your Sanwa seems to run fine?

He sent me some more pictures about the convergence. I will place them below.monouchi wrote:Great get.

Are these convergence issues(?) ok/manageble? I expect I have to do the mod first.
I have some "convergence strips" and "purity correction convergence tabs" too.
Tried them at my Sanwa but no the results I hoped for. Maybe I´ve done something wrong.
Could you or someone here help me to fix the convergence and everything with this Toshiba PF?
I have another 7 CRT´s needing some love and would be great if someone can teach me the process with this PF, so that I know what to do step by step.
I really want a AAA monitor like the PF, but with the videos and other informations I got from the www by now I had no luck so far and I only want to buy it when I can fix the convergence and everything..
Someone doing a complete CRT geometry and convergence "how to"-video explaining every step would be a huge and much needed contribution to the community.
Now the pictures:
Looking at the thumbnails, one can see that in some areas/spots the white lines aren´t entirely white. I this a problem of taking pictures of a crt or are this magnetisation problems or something?
EDIT:
Just found a video at YT. Nothing much of help but he states that the D29CQ51 has some more pods than the D29CO51 and don´t need to be modded.
quote: "...Tweaked FOCUS pot on flyback to get outer corners sharp and fortunately this chassis (D29CQ51) has additional pots for pincushion,
parallel etc., unlike the earlier (D29CO51) that requires a mod to the remote board to access the extended on screen menu."

That is very good geometry.
You wont get much better than that.
You can try to tweak the corners with convergence strips.

Ah, ok, thanks.
I have not that much experience with flat CRT´s.

That screen looks great, maybe play around with focus a bit after the screen has warmed up (30 minutes at least). Convergence looks ace. No need to tweak para/trap whatever, don't touch it. They will be already set near the best possible values at the factory, and drift is very little. I'd go for this in a heartbeat.
What cab will you put this in? Might need a good fitting bezel if it's a Naomi.

Re: Questions about Toshiba Trisync D29CQ51
Will get it soon.
He has no fitting bezel himself, but maybe knows someone. I have the Sanwa bezel in my NAOMI now.
I think Videotronics has a bezel, but the price including shipping is a little to much for me.
In case I get no bezel, I think about to adapt mine with some thin plastic sheets and dark gray vinyl foil, in a way that I can easily go back to original.
Another option would be fiber glas composite and spray paint. But really, I don´t like to "destroy" original hardware.
Also thought about putting it into a Astro City or some other cab I hopefully get in future. In that case I have no other choice but to adapt or make my own.
Anyone with experience making a self build bezel?

Videotronics is more or less the only place you'll fine one for the Net City.
For anything else you will have to make your own.
