1080p? Vewlix Monitor Replacement Document inside question

Post by slugflyer »

Hi there,

There's a scan i've obtained from a contact at Taito Japan. I was wondering if anyone knew about this monitor? It's their latest replacement that they said they had, and what they reply with if someone asks for a spare part.

So the 'superior version' of the vewlix monitor which was meant to be the Vewlix F or C / Capcom edition, how would it compare to this monitor? ...Has anyone used this monitor to stick in a lower grade 'Vewlix L' cabinet perhaps? Anyone seen or know more about this? Really wanted to know how it compared to the higher end Vewlix models.

It could be a great replacement / upgrade for those with the 'L' models?

I'm assuming the bottom right of the scan states compatible models...

Vewlix Monitor Replacement PDF Document inside & question

Post by slugflyer »

Interestingly - a lot of people say the vewlix monitors can't do 1080p.

Would this be 1080p, see this email I got today from Taito about the flyer I posted in the post above:

This monitor is much higher resolution compared to the old vewlix models.
It is full HD monitor (1920 x 1080).

We replace this monitor when our vewlix is defective.

Best regards,

Taito Corporation

:wtf:

Also, this reply might be of interest to someone one day:

1. This model is compatible with all of the viewlix models.

2. Power cable is included. You can use your existing screws. Screws are not included.

Vewlix full HD monitor kit as attached.
The price is 162,800yen/pcs.
The shipping cost would be around 90,000yen

The Bottom right are all the screen model numbers that came with each model, though I think they are the Taito Part Numbers generally, Like the Dia is actually model Ax080b077h. They are all 1366x768 I think.

Anyway would be interesting to know the new panels model number, but I'm not gonna shell out £1400 for a 1080p monitor to find out!

You sit so close to a Cab, so I'll wait for the 4K model.

Thanks for sharing!

Is this an official Taito item? I failed to see the Taito logo in the flyer.

Regarding the bottom right list of vewlix models, I understand the the 6 models at the end of the list (F, L, L-AMI, C, VS, DIA). But I don't understand the 2 top models of the list. Any ideas on this?

The First Line just says Vewlix and the model.

The second line is about half life 2 which I think was on vewlix right? See below

Now thats a rare Vewlix!

Taito indeed has a 1080p screen update for the Vewlix cabinets. I was contacted in early April to ask if I was interested in reselling the 1080p screens. The initial message was :
"Taito made a replacement kit of LCD Panel for Vewlix series.
The new panel is high speed spec and HD (1920x1080), and it is possible to install in all Japanese Vewlix (F, L, C, VS, DIA)..."

I informed about the price and without any form of transport yet, the price would be around 1800-1900 euro per screen... add transport within Japan and shipping it to EU and it would cost 2100 and up :(

I'm also working an a 1080P upgrade with a Samsungscreen which would end up significantly cheaper.

Such an update sounds interesting
I'm sure there will be quite a demand for it, if done professional.

I wonder what the justification for the price is. Decreased latency?

Wouldn't a monitor with less lag be cheaper in theory, since it wouldn't require all of the image processors and scalers that typical consumer monitors have?

Surely these aren't G-SYNC monitors. :awe:

I guess the price is justified (for Taito) for 2 reasons:
1) The screen is not mass produced like consumer screens
2) Modern arcade spareparts are screaming expensive

In the meantime I've worked on the 1080p screen in my project vewlix (original JP Taito L).
- The screen is a 14ms lag free panel from Samsung.
- It uses the original bezel from the Vewlix.
- Custom fitted to match the depth of the original screen.
- Has component, VGA, HDMI, composite and scart
- Connected to the original vewlix speakers by using the speaker output of the screen. In my case I had a subwoofer between the screen and vlx speakers.
- Has a remote ;)

Here are some pics with a PS4 connected. Controlled by pad until I get a better solution to run controls through a padhack.

seems like the new trend int he US is to actually buy these replacement Monitors from Taito for 1800$ or whatever.

please don`t do that, these are semi mid-class (at best) AlphaDisplay (http://www.alphadisplay.co.kr) Screens with AOU Panels. Screens you would expect to find on alibaba or aliexpress. Taito is just reselling These for a Fantasy Price.

Was just thinking the same when I read that thread. Also, people buying these second hand and paying through the nose, I wonder what the manufacturing date on some of these is...

Any suggestions for other screens as a drop-in replacement for 1080p? I sure as heck wouldn't spend $1800 on a new screen since I could buy another cab for that. But I would like to play a bunch more stuff via Steam Link on my cabinet.

If you can find one, go with the Pana that is in the DIA. Beside that pretty much every consumer LCD will do, Frame/covers might need some work, but most should do just fine.

Jan (on this board, and this thread) had some authentic Vewlix AMI 720p panels for sale/trade a few weeks back. He's a good, trustworthy guy too. You might want to hit him up. Some guy over on http://www.arcade-projects.com had some Vewlix 1080p panels for sale too.
