Upside down Astro City
Hi All I've recently acquired an Astro City but the picture seems to be upside down. I'm running a one slot MVS board through it and I took the front off and the monitor seems to be the right way up. Just doing some random searching will I have to change the two yoke related wires around? To be honest I'm a little apprehensive when it come to messing with a monitor.

Re: Upside down Astro City
If it's an Astro City it's probably a Nanao MS8 chassis and someone will point you to a connector that needs swapping round. If it's a New AC it'll be a MS9.
There's not a screen flip dip switch on MVS is there?

Yeah it's an original ac there doesn't seem to be a dip flip on the mvs.

Re: Upside down Astro City
either the screen was rotated the wrong way or the yoke wires were flipped. Most likely for a game that didn't support screen flipping. Notably ikari warrirors. The chassis should be on the left when rotated the standard way.

Looking from the back, or from the front?
Blast (2930) & Astro (MS9) have the chassis sitting on the right hand side, when looking from the front..

Monitor pcb is on the bottom. Monitor would appear to be horizontal. (When horizontal the pcb should always be on the bottom btw.)
You can take better pics of the thing when you take off the service hatch in the back, or when you peek inside and upwards thru the door on the front.
The suction cup (DO NOT TOUCH!) should be on the top of the tube. If it's on the bottom, the monitor has been rotated 'in the frame' which is unlikely, but still possible.
Unplugging of the yoke wires must be done with power off!! Preferably, if you have big hands and are going to fumble around a lot, discharge the monitor as well before doing this..
There are two wires for vertical, and two for horizontal, and they are both wired into two 2-prong plugs.
You do not swap the connectors around. Vertical stays on the vertical connector, and horizontal stays on the horizontal connector.
You unplug them, then insert them the other way around into the connector on the monitor pcb. (which is called a 'chassis' btw.)
These two connectors (circled in white) are the yoke connectors on a MS9:

I forgot which one is for the up/down flip, but others might know this and chime in

Not entirely sure how you shot that picture, but there should be a door on the back that is especially for that issue:

Page -2- (page 5 in the pdf), bottom right - the door with the 2 danger-signs.

Open control panel. Undo the screws which hold the front side of the NAC/AC in placeninn wrote: Not entirely sure how you shot that picture..
Back side, top part, remove the screws which hold the top part in place.
Whole front of NAC/AC comes off (if you undid the speakr connections) and you can rotate the monitor.
Or click here for the exact time you can see the shroud/front off.

at minute 1 in the video, you can see the door that let you see the chasis more easily.

That's for the replies guys, I didn't even notice the service panel in the rear (clearly I am not a smart man).
It's a MS9s (in an a AC not a NAC), just like the picture Azure posted. I thought about just going for it but I couldn't bring myself to do it, I guess de-charging really would be sensible.

Re: Upside down Astro City
I think these slowly bleed out the HV charge (auto discharge) from the monitor, (You should be able to hear a phud phud phud..phud..phud....phud....phud......phud......phud sound from the speakers right after you turn of the cab) so you should be pretty safe unplugging, flipping and replugging those plugs.hungar wrote:That's for the replies guys, I didn't even notice the service panel in the rear (clearly I am not a smart man).

can anyone else confirm the MS9 will auto discharge? I'm going to have a bash later I think, to decharge or not?

Well I grew a pair had a go and I'm still here to live to tell the tale
For posterity, the brown and yellow flipped the image the right way up but it was mirrored so I had to flip the other one around (blue red) as well.

ya, no high voltage in H/V deflection coils. else they probably would not be exposed like that
