Toshiba Pure Flat (D29CQ56) Extended Menu

Post by boergi »

I have a D29CQ56
the remote PCB just has switches and resistors. five wires go to the chassis.
GND, two used and two unused (not connected) wires. nothing happens if you remove the remote while the monitor is running.
add a 5k pot and a switch between GND and one of the other wires of the remote pcb. turn the pot and press the button.
I found several hidden menus for geometry adjustment like this. The color adjustment menu was on the third unused wire.
just try the different wires. you can remove the remote while trying or leave it there.I left it coneccted and used the solder points on it to solder the pot

here a sample pic:

hope you understand my bad english :awe:

Thanks boergi... finally a concrete thing to try out in the pursuit of the hidden menus. Legend has it that the first guy who documents what's available in the hidden menu will get eternal fortune and glory.

But that pot with unknown function on the chassis still bugs me :think:

If someone can confirm boergi's findings I'll split the thread with a search friendly title and we should Wiki it too.

This makes sense considering what Jomac wrote about the hidden menu being accessible with some special remote board with resistors connected in series to each wire and switches that control how many of them the signal is routed through.

So I guess it should even be possible to measure the resistance required on each wire to access the menus and reverse engineer that remote board.

This is what I had in mind, and then get some small multi-switch attached to the remote board.
Small and tidy fix.

I found some time to document this.

the monitor D29CQ56:

the original remote PCB:

the diagram of the original PCB:

standard function menu:
Image
press the FUNC button to go down through the menu. use the up and down buttons to change the values of each option.

I used this pot and button to find the hidden options:
Image

Image

soldered it to GND and CN (connector) 41 of the remote PCB
Image
all I've found here is that you can go upwards through the FUNC menue if the resistance of the pot is set to 3k Ohms.

now I soldered it to the next pin, CN40
Image

I've found the geometry menu with a resistance of 3-5k Ohms
Image
press the button and you go downwards through the menu. (didn't found a setting to go upwards). the values can be changed with the standard UP and DOWN buttons.

now the next pin CN 39
Image

set the pot to 0 Ohms to get into the color adjustment menu
Image

again, press the button and you go downwards through the menu. values can be changed with the standard UP and DOWN buttons.
set the resistance to 1.5k Ohms to go upwards through the menu.

set the resistance to 3-5k Ohms to autoset the H-frequency
Image

I also tried the last pin CN38 but didn't found anything there..

here the diagram with the additions

feel free to put this info and pictures in the Wiki and spread it around the web.

Tried this out today and can confirm that it works :awe:. I have a D29C051 which exhibits just a few small differences from boergi's findings for the D29CQ56.

Only managed to trigger the geometry menu and the color adjustment menu. I was unable to find a H-frequency adjustment.

The geometry menu contains a few additional settings (marked with * below):
- Pin cushion
* Pin corner top
* Pin corner bottom
- Parallel
- Trapezoid
* Pin balance
* Pin balance top
* Pin balance bottom
- S correct
- C correct

The color adjustment menu contains the following items (again, the difference from D29CQ56 is marked with *):
- R cut
- G cut
- B cut
- R gain
- G gain
- B gain
* Brightness
* Contrast

Brightness and contrast are just the normal items also available in the normal menu.

Maybe a given, but settings are separate for 15 and 31 khz.

The most important difference of course is the ability to adjust pin corner and pin balance separately for the top and bottom which could prove useful.

Could you write up the process on the wiki ikaruga007, I would but I don't have hands on experience (or the chassis) so i'm bound to make a mistake...

Cool findings ikaruga007.
Interesting that you found the menus at 0 ohm.

I will also try this on my K29CQ50 model.
