Wells Garnder D9800 resolution switch "problems"

Post by glstar »

Hi.
I've two wells gardner D9810 quadri-frequency flat monitor.
They are really good in vga 31khz (with naomi for example),but produces really strange problems with jamma 15 and 24khz boards.
Both monitors are inside my two naomi universal cabs.
Yesterday i was trying with jamma boards, tekken tag and nba play by play both jvs.
Each are giving me blank screen via vga cable.....
Seems that for some strange reason the monitor didn't understand what type of resolution is in.
Tried neogeo mvs or soccer superstar (anyway any "normal" jamma) and they are working perfectly fine (always through vga cable).
The strange thing is that tekken tag works perfectly fine via vga cable and always via jvs,in my sanwa pfx....
Same thing with sega stv board.
If i connect the stv only with no cart in,i see the image told me that no carts are in,but if i connect the mainboard with a games in then blank screen....
I really don't understand why...
I've ask wells gardner technician and they told me to try change one switch on the main pcb....
But they are not too convinced about this.....

Someone could understand why this strange "effects" on both D9810?
Could be some chassis problems?
I know that in the past some users got similar switching problems with D9400 and that the cause was bad connection boards (the board with rgb and vga connections)...
But now in the D9810 this connection board is integrated into the chassis......

Strange that in my pfx all is working fine.........

Only nba play by play cannot work bith 15 and 24khz....
Really strange.............

Don't know but that's the same with 15khz.
I read that nba play by play is 512x384 60hz
http://www.retrocpu.com/mame/roms/n/nba_play_by_play"

Don't know if this resolution can cause the problem.....
I ask to tech dep over at wells gardner.....

Grant....
You know which way i could just change the jumper from position 1 (1-2 closed) and position 2 (2-3 closed),without opening every time the back of my naomi uni??
I could use a switch or something similar??
It could be really good if i could have a switch underthe control panel into the naomi uni, near the monitor remote control.
Any idea? (a link to such "switch" would be wonderful).

not seen a d9800 yet, what is the jumper for?
my guess you just need to link vert and hor sync-anyway an external switch will do

you would need to link together pins 13 and 14 on the vga connector

I've been thinking about getting one of these monitors - is it a direct replacement, or did you take the mounting frame from another monitor?
I make and sell cool Arcade stuff, check out https://irkenlabs.com/ - In The Name of Science!

@Grant
So i need to open the vga cable and connect pin 13-14 together?
Should i put some resistors between the two??
This should resolve the switching problem,so i can let the jumper in the original point?

@Invzim
It's not a direct replacement, but you just need to do 4 holes into the frame.
Nothing too complicate trust me....
I think that this is really a good monitor apart from this switching problems....and nba play by play... :)

I'll try the Grant metod this evening if i have time.
I'm really really curious.....

if the vga lead goes to a interface board like the d9200 and d9400 then just jumper the vert and hor sync there,i think that switch that wg tech told you about is a sync switch

In the D9800 is all integrated into the main board.
If those jumper is used for synch switch, why then all jamma are working fine but not nba play by play??
Not that is really so important but i just want to understand, technically, why that board cannot be displayed....
:wtf:
