Cap List/Cap Kit for Toshiba D29CQ51 ?

Postby Shadolf » February 16th, 2017, 7:41 pm

I have bought the monitor I mentioned in the thread here:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=34349

It´s a really nice monitor but it has a little issue with the picture being unsable.
Talked about that in this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=34955

So it seems it could be a faulty cap with my chassis too, but I could not find a leaking one.
Should I just exchange them all? Any other suggestions about curing the unsteady picture?
Were can I get a cap kit or a list of caps for the D29CQ51?

The caps on these chassis very rarely leak or even bulge.

I don't think there's a cap list for this monitor. Fortunately, you have the chassis in front of you so it's as easy as taking a pen and notepad and writing down what you have.

Unless someone here knows better (Grant?), I would start with the high voltage caps.

Yes, I inspected the caps on the chassis and couldn´t see a faulty one.
I can make a cap list myself, that´s right of course, but I thought I ask first maybe there is already one around ;) .
Sadly there has no one (exept me) responded to the thread about the unsteady picture I mentioned above and the one who opened the thread solve his with exchanging a leaky caps.
So I´m kind of desperate and don´t know were to start. Caps seem to be an easy way to start with.
I think with high voltage caps you mean caps with nominal voltage 450V and above!?
And I expect they are electrolytic ones, as ceramic ones won´t need to be exchanged.

I was thinking everything that is over 100V. There's only a handful of electrolytic ones.

Yeah, I´ve done that right now. It´s really hard to show the problem in a video, but you can get an idea.
Look at the flickering around the letters.

When you sit in front of the screen, it looks like the letters are moving from left to right and back in a high frequency.

Does this issue appear only on the text? Have you tried another monitor?
My 15kHz cabinet Peplos will never power up, with any item, and I am quite proud of that.

It is not possible to see it at constanly moving objects in game. But with a cross hatch image you can also see it.
It´s over the whole screen, but it vibrates more on the lower half. When playing, one can overlook it, dependig on the game. In maze or puzzle type games it stands out a lot more then in shmups were the image on the screen is constanly changing.
Playing Go Go Mile Smile or such, it´s really annoying.
Just tried two other monitors with another cable and there is also some kind of jitter, but not the same way and not this strong. And those monitors need to be set for good geometry and stuff first.

I´ll try the Tosh PF with another cable, too.
I also I will set the convergence, geometry etc. for this one, as It was used with 31khz only in the past and I expect that it needs to be adapted for low frequency signal.
But I don´t think geometry is the issue.

From your report one might say that the horizontal ramp generator of your monitor has issues locking to the horizontal sync signal.
Yet, from the look of your video it seems to me like the video clock signal on your game board has jitter issues.
Unfortunately I am not sure which one of the two.

Cap list can be found here though:
http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Toshiba_PF_D29C051

It has reported that one or two caps can vary.
