VMUs on a Naomi
I've heard there's a guide to wiring up a VMU (or a Dreamcast Controller to allow the use of a VMU) to a Naomi cab.
I know the Capcom CP allows for this, does it require the Capcom I/O aswell, or is it possible without?
Googling for the guide isn't getting me anywhere, can anyone help?

I did once see someone selling a cart that included the guide on wiring your own VMU harness, but I didn't see the point at the time. Now I've got a game that has a save facility

Hack a DC pad to CN6, and use that?

Re: VMUs on a Naomi
I can vouch for the guide in pete's link, I used it to hack two DC keyboards for use on Lupin the Typing

Re: VMUs on a Naomi
I did the DC hack today:

I used a couple of spare 12v PC Fan connectors I had spare

Nice snug fit on the Naomi mobo

It lives!

In the end it's not what I expected though
. I somehow imagined this would allow some new features to be available in Heavy Metal, instead it switches off your cabinet control panel and forces you to use the DC pad instead, which I guess adds analogue, but not much else. It doesn't add the ability to save progress or anything like that unless I'm missing something
I thought seeing as how opponents have different levels there may have been a feature to develop your character.
Thanks for the help though guys, it was at least... edumacational

I've really neglected the Naomi since I got it... have to stop buying cabs and enjoy the ones I have - that is my two thirds of a year resolution... anyway, Andy threw in some of these when I got my cab -

Seeing these ones on ebay the other night reminded me that I had them! However, I'm utterly clueless how you use them/connect them up!? And what's the point of them!? Basically, all I think I know is that they allow you to use Dreamcast pads on your Naomi... but if that is the case where do they connect on the pad and where do they connect on the Naomi?

Im pretty sure that if you take a Sega DC pad apart, you have a connector like on the wiring you have and you just un plug the std DC cable and swap over to the arcade style ones.
Open up a DC pad and check

Ah, thought that might be the case... didn't want to mess with pads unnecessarily though... cheers Adam!
Just wondering whether these are really worth keeping if I'm honest!

Re: Huh!? How do these work? Dreamcast>Naomi Adaptors
prob not as you could make a DC pad hack cheap enough and is easier to play all the great DC games then rather than the compatable ones.
I use DC pad hacks for Zero Gunner 2 and Under Defeat as its to expensive to buy all the hardware and then the actual games (which are very expensive) when there are perfect ports on the DC
I know consoles in cabs is not right and I agree but money talks, and I dont have the spare mulla for these two games esp when there are so many other games I want!!

Those wires connect up the Capcom Naomi Impress panel or VMU memory Naomi slots.

That's a good idea... however, at the moment, the games I do have for the Naomi don't get much play so to me it's not really something I'd be too fussed about doing - good idea all the same though!tetsujin wrote:prob not as you could make a DC pad hack cheap enough and is easier to play all the great DC games then rather than the compatable ones.

Think as I won't get much for them, I'll hold onto them for now anyway!

Re: Huh!? How do these work? Dreamcast>Naomi Adaptors
I guess there good if you wanted to play some of the games at home on a normal TV like VF4 etc and use a DC pad over a stick? but then, it sort of defeats the purpose!
