CP frame, stains and scratches.

Post by zumbito »

Continuing with my Blast restoration, I am trying to clean the CP plastic surrounding while I wait for the screw removal kit. I have tried with acetone and T-cut white but no real difference except for the inner stains.
Current condition:

I thought this was ABS, but I can see like fibers or lines going in and out the plastic and acetone doesn´t seem to affect it...

Effect in the inside of the acetone:

Trying going over it very lightly with wire wool and white vinegar, circular motions over a small area a couple of inches wide at most - only use this method for the inside mind.

wire wool won´t be too aggressive? I tried acetone in the inside, and I´m quite pleased with it, is the outside what bothers me the most, it is quite yellow.

Ah I thought you were talking of the rusty gunk inside the cp moulding.

Yeah, tricky. Novus plastic polish maybe, or perhaps try retrobrite-ing it? Not sure if that's for plastics only, never seen it on fibreglass - not sure if the bleach would do bad things to it.

You will absolutely have to use something that's abrasive. Novus is a good suggestion. A magic eraser probably won't cut it.

MAgic eraser improves it, but not to a decent point. I am using kraft polishing compound now, but will need to figure out how to recover the shine.

They are, but probably not to the point that they will work on stained fiberglass.

Regarding the yellowing, hydrogen peroxide is the way to go. Scratches still working on those...

Sorry to bump this thread but I'm interested in getting the best results for my Blast city Control Bezel.

What worked best for you in the end?
