Astrocity, Volume Amplifier, extremely weak ?

Post by retrogamer593 »

I've tried to add a normal stero cable from my pc to my astro.
Drilled the two stereo wires to make them mono and connected them to the jpac.
The sound is extremely low volume. The volume in windows is cranked up to the max, the amp also.
From the volume I'm hearing from my Astro...its more like when someone cranks his headphones to ultraloud and you sit beside this person.
Do I need a mini amp before going in the astro amp, or is something broken?

I use a mini amp in my Aero. I connected the PC to the amp via a 3.5mm headphone cable i hacked up and then conntected the speaker connections on the amp directly to the JPAC which worked perfectly through the JAMMA edge.

Which PSU/amp do you have in your Astro?

Ok. Silly question but gotta ask it anyway :shifty: Does it work ok with a JAMMA game? As in, it's only in this case the volume drops..?

The PSU you have has a volume control but it's just an inline potentiometer used to control the amplifed audio output from a JAMMA board. Your PSU, unlike some of the other Astro PSUs, doesn't have an inbuilt amplifier.

The output from your PC is at line level and so you need to amplify it before routing it back to the cab speakers by either sending it to the JPAC, the audio input of the PSU (where you could then use the volume control on the PSU if desired) or directly to the speakers by connecting it to the two pin AMP UP output on the PSU or the four pin AMP UP located in the CP.

You need to either install an amplifier, change the PSU to one with a built in amplifier or you could use a JammASD (which IIRC has an inbuilt amplifier) instead of the JPAC.
