Arcade cabinets on wooden flooring?

Post by Steve »

Just had my living room carpet replaced with a wooden floor cover . Are there any dangers of having a 120kg cab on it? Would any sort of casters need to be placed on the feet to prevent scratching or cracking?

You need to get some castor cups, look on eBay. Castors will scratch the floor too.

I have my 3 cabs on a wooden floor with no problems.

Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to have big pieces of furniture I guess...

I bet one day I will have to end up placing my cabs on a wooden floor. I was going to put down some soft padded material like various layers of felt that I would just buy from any fabric store. Just lay those under the cabs.

If you plan on using the wheels to move it once in a while (like, to get behind it, or putting it on its back to rotate the monitor, etc.) it's not too good for the floor. I put mine on a long carpet so I don't have to think about it.

This.

I left some tracks in my hardwood floor when I wheeled out my cab. A hard plastic sheet will work great if you're not a fan of carpets. Ikea sells floor protectors that are made for office chairs with rollers. If you're there, ask for a Kolon protector!

Me too. I now put down some thin sheets of fiberboard when moving them.

Use this on wheels and metal bases which touch the floor - worked for me:

I've often pulled them along on whatever nearby rug that was available for one without wheels even for the ones that do.. Mrs wouldn't let me hear the end of it if I wrecked the floors
