New Astro City - Keylocks used from Factory.

Post by hoodys13 »

Hi all,

I'm finally starting to work on my candy cabinet. It's been craving attention since I bought it 2 years ago.

My aim is to restore the cabinet and have everything as close to original as possible. While in my possession, I'm thinking of running a PC setup with hyperspin/mame.

What I'm up to now is sorting out the Keylocks, as the original owner changed them over to the circular key with single pin on top.

Can someone confirm the type of sega lock used on the New Astro City.
What I've heard is the coin mech, coin box, and service door are all on the 5380, the control panel locks using 5575. This correct?

Cheers,
Rhys

Hi. Have a look in the manual. I think there's a PDF in the wiki.
Edit: my guess is 5380 in all except the coin door.
Up the Irons!

I checked the manual, and that's correct. Thanks!
Calls for the serviceman to have master key 220-5381 (which suits lock 5380). The key for the coin box has no part number.

What did most machines have on the coin box if it wasn't the sega key? The owners own key lock?

Sorry to gravedig this thread, I would have PM'ed the OP but he's been active the last time on march 2014 :S

From what I've read NAC's locks are all 5380 except the coin door. Am I correct? If so, what lock is the coin door one?
Thanks all.

Yep NAC locks are all 5380 except for the coin door. Coin box doors are always keyed to differ but on the NAC it would still be a magnetic key.

I bought another 5380 lock for the coin box on my NAC and I've just done the same thing with my Lindbergh cabinet albeit with a A001 lock. IMO a cab that's all keyed alike is so much better for home use, saves so much faffing around. I just keep the original coin door locks and keys in the coin boxes so they can be swapped back in the future if I ever need to so.

Good thinking, I've done exactly the same :)

I'm still here, just not very active at all. Lucky I get post notifications:D.

My project has paused for quite some time, but I was also going to key the coin door with a 5380 from memory. I've bought all the gear... just got to dedicate to finishing.

The barrel codes for coin box locks are unique to each specific barrel.

When I got my NAC in 2009, I believe  , it came with only one magnetic key for all of the locks. Which means I have to unlock one side of the control panel first and pull it up, lock it back and the do the other side. The key is some generic key. What are my options? Is it possible to find this same key or will I have to redo all 4 locks on the cab? :problem:

The key in your pictures is a regular dimple style key and not a magnetic key. If it is that dimple key that does all your locks then you'd be best searching for another NEOS K0001. NEOS is a relatively widely used lock brand in Japan, so you may get lucky. Maybe post a wanted ad or its ebay, yahoo etc.

You know, my cab will come without any locks. Being a "purist" I want to source the original locks NAC's came with, which means 4x 5380 and 1x ... ?
^ this is what I need to figure out Paulie.

Most of the coin door locks I've come across paired with 5380 locks have been Miwa branded. I've seen dimple and A001 style keys with different numbered Sega branded coin door locks but not the magnetic keys.

This is a MIWA lock
