Power Supply current?
I've got a daft question about jamma PSU's.
I've ordered a small PSU for my supergun to replace the massive wei ya I have at the moment.
http://www.meanwelldirect.co.uk/product ... efault.htm"
I've just noticed that it only output's 7A on the 5v line and 4A on the 12v line, will this be enough to run jamma PCBs?
I've never really understood current / amps on jamma PSU's, if someone could enlighten me?

Yeah that should be enough. Maybe Cave SH-3 or some really huge boards may need more power but the majority should be fine.
5v is the "important" one for JAMMA, where the Amperage matters. 12v usually only needs around 1A so you rarely if ever need to worry about it. And -5v is mostly for certain American games (notably, the Midway ones).

Then you give an answer, kernow.

That's a phenomenally odd assumption to make.kernow wrote:I think everyone knows what -5v is for.
Oh, so I gave a useful answer and you're jealous. No problem, I'll be here to annoy you with usefulness for a long time.kernow wrote:I'll just wait for someone who does understand current and how it works to come along and answer the question correctly.

Yeah... it's too bad an unemployed loser like you has to mar an otherwise nice place.
But go on pretending like your some sort of important; it's provided me with a lot of laughs these past few years.

Lols, nope. Reading ain't your strong suit either. Maybe it's a good thing you didn't bother an answer.

OK, the PSU he bought should be OK except for maybe Cave SH-3, because I don't remember off-hand if it needs 7A or 9A on the 5v line. His 12v is OK, because I don't know of any games where it requires more than 1A. Same is true with the -5v line.
Amperage can be thought of as the "strength" of the current. I'm not sure if there's a better way to explain that but that's how it was explained to me by a friend who's an electrician.
Feel better now kern? Even you can learn a bit too.

Yes. Maybe not some of the more modern or larger boards, but it should be okay for most things.CPS2 wrote:I've just noticed that it only output's 7A on the 5v line and 4A on the 12v line, will this be enough to run jamma PCBs?
Ideally you want a 15A one.

Thanks chaps. It's for cps games, I'm not likely to run anything Cave or JVS etc.

Put it this way, I've run 4x SH3 simultaneously from a 15A supply with no issues whatsoever.

Re: Power Supply current?
It's the same PSU that is in a Boardmaster SG, BTW.
Gotta ask..... how / why were you running 4 pcb's from the same PSU?cools wrote:Put it this way, I've run 4x SH3 simultaneously from a 15A supply with no issues whatsoever.

Off a jamma switcher. Because it allows me not to **** around swapping games.

Re: Power Supply current?
I have a spare identical relay switcher too Does have limitations - all games have to be freeplay, and only 3 buttons.
Old pic. I subsequently mounted the switcher to the cab base so I could fit larger boards in.

Imagine this:Korszca wrote: I'm not sure if there's a better way to explain ...
If you got a bottle/tube of water and there is a hole at the bottom, where water is coming out.
The amount of water (pressure )in the bottle/tube corresponds to voltage.
The size of the hole is Resistance.
Ampere is the amount of water coming out in a given time: It relates to size of the hole and the amount of water.

Hole... pressure... resistance.... IDC will be along any moment.

Re: Power Supply current?
It would be possible to measure the voltage of a cumshot if you used that analogy.
