This is old but I'm gonna bump it. I'm about to take mine out and was wondering the same thing. Do I remove the monitor first, then discharge it? If so,what do I need to unplug from the chassis? It seems like discharging it while its inside is 10x more dangerous as you have very little room to work.

disconnect the vga cable if there
pop the bezel off
sit it on its back.
disconnect the 3 connector on the front of the frame
take the nuts off
pull it out , probably want 2 ppl to be safe

Is there not a power cable going into it somewhere?

It should be getting it's power from an AMP UP connector, which you should disconnect before taking the monitor out, as codecrank already described.

Discharging can be done with the monitor outside of the cabinet. Most important thing is not to go near the suction cup on the back of the tube and around the flyback on the chassis.

And the AMP UP connector is one of the wires plugged into the front when you take the bezel off? Also,I'll be doing my first cap kit replacement. I've read that some still hold a charge on certain older monitors,is it necessary to discharge the caps? Every youtube tutorial on changing caps doesnt mention discharging them at all.

Yes. Disconnect both connectors and you can pull out the monitor.
