For the life of me I just can't figure out how to play these manic shmups? I love them and own a couple of them, but at the same time I sooo suck at them...

It is daunting at first, but all it takes is time & practice. The key is finding a game you really love as the learning part isn't a chore.onyxx wrote:For the life of me I just can't figure out how to play these manic shmups? For EspRade, you can determine the order of the 1st 3 levels by holding A, B or C at the character select screen. This makes a massive diffence imo as taking the casino level as L3 is the easiest route (IMO)
Beyond that, there are places when you can strategically bomb (hard bits to avoid death) and a fixed extend at the start of Lv4.

Thanks for the pointers, let's try this out and see if I can improve?markedkiller78 wrote:For EspRade, you can determine the order of the 1st 3 levels by holding A, B or C at the character select screen. This makes a massive diffence imo as taking the casino level as L3 is the easiest route (IMO)

Been playing this on and off for a week, really like it. Prefer it to Galuda.
By **** though does stage 4 suddenly seem to 'up it'!

Re: ESP.Ra.De
IIRC you just have to be in the right spot as the train on the far right passes from bottom to top. it's a very brief moment but once you figure it out there isn't much to it. Between the 1UP and the 8mil extend you should be able to push through that brutal stage 4 boss. Best of luck with Mrs Gara

Had that stage 4 boss to half health but he tagged me with an unexpected pattern
I'm at a stage now where I should be able to clear the first three stages without losing a life if I actually concentrate.
More often than not I lose lives due to the different coloured 'bullets', my brains weaving through pink and blue projectiles only to get tagged by a new green barrage. If they were all the same colour I'd be fine
Will play some more tonight, will probably be last chance for a bit as away next week and I've got a grail pcb arriving next week...

Re: ESP.Ra.De
Had a rare day with the cabs today, so I’ve been playing as much of this as I can…
My current top score is 4618830, and the furthest I can get on a credit is about mid way through level 4.
I use JB 5th, and the level select trick so that I always get School as level 3.
On a really good run I can get to level 4 deathless, usually I’m a life down because I’m wildly inconsistent.
I generally get the first high score extend on the level 3 boss, and I’m very inconsistent in picking up the extra life on the train.
I’m hoping this will eventually be my first Cave 1cc, but it looks like it’ll take quite some time to get there.
Anyone have this in their cab right now?

Re: ESP.Ra.De
I'm getting into this for the very first time on the PS4, any tips? How do you control what stages appear with the buttons? And doesn't the hitbox move when you dodge if you don't hold A+C? I hope the 1CC is easier than Feveron

Re: ESP.Ra.De
Awesome you’re getting in to it! It’s my favourite Cave shooter.
Unfortunately, I get to use my cab very rarely indeed, and as such I’m still nowhere near that 1cc and really not a good source of advice!
I’ve never got beyond level 4 on a single credit.
I use JB5th, and on the character select screen C (or 3, or barrier??) gets you Mall, Bay, School, which is my preferred order.
No idea on the other two, but as long as you select with buttons 2 or 3 you’ll get the respective fixed order and it won’t take you more than two plays to work out which is which.
I’d certainly suggest YouTube videos for tips, routes and patterns.
Knowing how to get the extra life on level 4 is a must, and by coincidence you also get an extra life on score at just about the same time too.
(Extra life is on the end of the fast moving train travelling down screen at the start of the level. Bomb (or barrier shot?!) will destroy it)
My major fault is that I hoard my bomb/barrier meter, and often die without ever using it.
Deffo learn to get comfortable using it.
Good luck!!!

Re: ESP.Ra.De
JB 5th is a beast, using him as well. So I see how you get 16x multiplier by spraying a big enemy and then killing it, then are you able to juggle the 16x or does it just run out after a few seconds like in Ketsui (5 chips) and then you have to trigger it again? Also how many spray shots have to hit for it to trigger, is it 1x for each shot (all 16 hitting I'm guessing). Can you abuse the bombs in this game at all to keep the multiplier going?ChrisBEANS wrote: ↑July 9th, 2023, 9:33 amI use JB5th, and on the character select screen C (or 3, or barrier??) gets you Mall, Bay, School, which is my preferred order.
Game is unreal, the aesthetic reminds me of X/1999.

Re: ESP.Ra.De
How on Earth do people 1cc this game?!
Level 4 is a massive difficulty spike, and the boss is insane!
On my very best game, I’ve got the first extra life for score, and the bonus life at the start of level 4, and with those five lives in hand still not made it to the boss without a continue.
