yeah metal slug 1 has a few leeching points once its well known and the captured soldiers and slug side heavily on experienced players getting the scoring bonuses, also theres a definate finish/score cap. something with loops or nuanced scoring works best for competitions.

Could be interesting. If it's a game I'm not totally averse to, I might have to the pick the PCB up.

If only there could be a game that none of us have mastered and is cheap to pick up.

I remember talking about a game of the month thread but it's a problem when 5-10 people are all suddenly looking for the same game.

I think it's a great idea doing this :thumbupright:

Obviously if I have the game when it's decided or it's cheap and easy enough to find, I'll join in the fun Even though I know I'll be near the bottom of the score board as I'm pretty crap  Hence why you don't see me knocking about this neck the woods.

mame .....no :(

i suppose a way to stop potentially stop a spike in price is pick widely available games and run it for longer time frame i.e 2-3 months

snow bros ... :awe: it doesnt matter anyway i **** at all games

or if you did allow mame that the rule states that you are automatically demoted to 2nd so top prize cant be won

A longer period definitely makes sense, as does announcing well in advance what the game will be.

I'm really struggling to come up with a game that is cheap enough it can be bought this way. Ebay is awful for PCB purchases recently.

MVS is going to be the cheapest, but hardly any of the games lend themselvs to scoring.

A group order from the states/japan? Cheaper more readily available pcbs and combined shipping would probably only add around £10 per person

I like this idea but finding a game (as Rossyra said) is the difficult part

you could use timed games as wel,l isnt tekken timed, samurai showdown  quickest time to clear etc its been along time since i've played these so i could be totally wrong :palm: ...

also there is the likes of supersidekicks ,its cheap.. its could be a highscoring comp could have whoever scores the most goals etc ..presume its like this ,i havent played it in recent years.

The first Super Sidekicks doesn't have any scoring system unfortunately, not sure about the later ones..
