Competition Idea
I've had a thought for a high score competition. PCB only (you have to own the board and show a photo of it connected up and running to enter), actual prizes for the top 3 scores.
Stumped as to what game though. Needs to be cheap and easily available, and playable for score.
Suggestions?

Re: Competition Idea
Puzzle Bobble/Bust a Move 1 or 2 is the first game that springs to mind. Cheap, common and doesn't require in-depth intimate knowledge.

Re: Competition Idea
Flying Shark is cheap(ish) but certainly not common. One of the Drillers is a good suggestion.
PB would be good but it'd require an MVS motherboard as well.

Re: Competition Idea
It's hard to find a common pcb & we used PB last time iirc.
An MVS game is probably the cheapest & easiest to pick up, possibly not for Cools though

Re: Competition Idea
I'm thinking more an "announce the game one month ahead of time" so that anyone that wants to participate can pick one up, rather than looking at what people already have. Hence making sure it's common enough.
It's the kinda thing those 60-in-1's would be good for, however I don't want one of those in my possession.

Re: Competition Idea
Does it have to be a PCB? Maybe a download game on xbox360/ ps3 might be cheaper and more available to most members?
Just an idea as even a cheap PCB is £30 after shipping these days and that's if we can all get it!

Re: Competition Idea
It would be nice if it was not Puzzle Bobble chosen, mainly because the last time we had any sort of competion, it was Puzzle Bobble

Re: Competition Idea
How about a game that was available in various formats? Like the first Metal Slug. Only legit physical / digital copies would be allowed, of course.

Re: Competition Idea
Nope. It's definitely PCB only. MVS/AES would be legit but that's the only secondary format I'd allow
Trying to think of something different. A MAME compo with prizes just doesn't feel right.

Re: Competition Idea
theres been a real glut of flying sharks recently, i waited 6 moths for one and ended up getting one from america for a decent price and as soon as i paid for it 2 were on ebay in the next week. i think theres been about 8 in the last 4 months for sale in the uk via ebay and other forums all around £50.
if its going to be pcb only maybe a register interest thread then a stock check to see where it stands in terms of the most common pcbs across the interested people and take it from there.

Re: Competition Idea
Then it basically becomes a competition of how far you can get rather than a high score competition. It's not really a score attack sort of game for a competition, it'll just get dominated by people who know the game inside out.TheRedKnight wrote:Like the first Metal Slug.
The same can be said for shmups but the score systems can mean that getting further doesn't always mean a better score.
