Virtua Fighter 3 Model 3 filter board harness on a Blast City

Post by namstephan »

I just got back from Tokyo! Boy do I have pictures for y'all, I visited all the arcades I could find, as well as arcade parts/PCB shops.

But before that, a friend sent out a SOS call concerning his newly acquired Blast City and a Virtua Fighter 3 board set (rom + filter, the whole nine).

His situation is he has the game and the cabinet, but not the harness that connects the filter board to jamma, he proceeded to buy this one off HKLegend because it is listed as "Sega Harness - Model 3 Jamma Wire FOR Virtua Fighter Arcade PC Board 28 Pin":

http://www.hklegend.com.hk/?page_no=3.2 ... show_case=

Seems like problem solved. However the harness arrived and he realizes two things off: One of them being there are 4 unsoldered wires, 2 for ground and 2 for 3.3v. And then when trying to connect to the filter board, he realizes that several of the small pins off the harness (with white plastic ends) cannot find matching connections on the filter board. Sorry if this sounds confusing, I have personally not hooked up a model 3 before even though I have a Blast City, so I am helping him reach out to all you fine capable individuals.

Here are the pictures of the harness he purchased:

Any help would be much much appreciated!! I am organizing my trip photos right now and will have lots to share soon:

There's actually a proper original Model 3 harness available for the Blast City. I'm sure they pop up here and then on Yahoo Japan.

Your friend needs to cross reference this:

with the jamma pinout and figure out what goes where. There's possibly going to be extra pins on the filter board and extra connectors on the harness, neither of which will need to be connected.

Jamma doesn't have 3.3V, that's why there's the transformer in the middle of the harness (which is slightly superfluous in this case, as the Blast City outputs 3.3V. However, of course you would need to tap it).

Thanks so much nem.

One follow up question:

Could you please elaborate a little on how to tap 3.3V out of a Blast City? I play Naomi on mine using the 001 harness, and am familiar with the JVS setup, but am not sure how to tab 3.3V from loose wires coming directly out of a harness.

Thanks!

If you have the 001 loom, buy the proper female connector for it and wire it up:

If your friend doesn't have the 001 loom, (s)he would have to tap it from the IO board inside the cabinet. Easiest would be to buy the proper pins and add them to the AMP UP connector for DC OUTPUT:

Thanks @nem and @hikaru!

Great to know there's a female adapter to hook up the 001 cable.

600-6738-20 loom seems to be the best solution to play model 3 on Blast City for sure, but upon extended searching, this loom seems to be even harder to find than the 001, eek.

Anyway, this should be enough info for my friend to proceed from here! Thanks again all.

As a matter of fact, both my friend and I would be very much interested in getting a 600-6738-20 loom! Thanks in advance!
