Testing a board for faults

Post by Pilgrim_Pramsta »

I just bought a Raiden board and when it turned up I tried it on both my cabs and got nothing - no picture, no sound.

I checked on here but couldn't find any related threads or tutorials so can someone put me out of my misery and advise how I test the board to try and identify the problem.

I have a bog standard multimeter but that's it!

Many thanks.

Yep thanks for that. Had a quick look from work and seems to be some very useful info there. Will see if I can get to the bottom of the problem tonight.

Thanks for the pr0ps!

Take a look at some of the sticky posts there, especially the ones on Troubleshooting Steps and CPU Reset Lines.

For initial troubleshooting, a good eye, magnifying glass, and a digital multimeter with continuity testing is all you need. You'd be surprised at how many game boards can be fixed by patching gouged traces or replacing components that have snapped off the board due to rough handling.

Beyond that you want to get a logic probe - preferably one with audible beeping.
