Passing Shot "upside down"
I've recently got this game that gave me hours of fun when I was a kid but it displays the image upside down.
At first I thought it was a dip switch issue so I've took a look at them but they all set different stuff from what I need (ie. coins, sound, lives, difficulty, etc.)
I'm a bit clueless and even though it's a cheap boot, I'd love to sort this out...
Any thoughts?

Re: Passing Shot "upside down"
Older games have hardware mechanisms for flipping screen. It was important when installed on cocktail cabs so both players cold play the game facing each other instead of fighting for space in one of the sides of the table hehe.
So it's very likely that if dipswitches have no effect the board has developed a hardware fault.

Re: Passing Shot "upside down"
I think it was originally mounted on a cocktail too. Maybe only P2 was playable so they had to modify the board or who knows what happened to itleonardoliveira wrote:Older games have hardware mechanisms for flipping screen. Anyway, this is the actual board I got:
if, maybe, the flip has been obtained through an hardware modification (ie. a soldered wire or such), do you think the process is reversible? As you can see, being a boot, it has wires soldered here and there, maybe one has flipped the image...
Edit. These are the dip switch settings:

Re: Passing Shot "upside down"
I think I've got why it's upside down: it's the 4 players board.
Now, is there a way to convert this boot to be a 2 players one? This should fix the problem...

You could always invert the yoke cable on the chassis.

Re: Passing Shot "upside down"
Being rotated it's a pain to reach the chassis... Other than that this would only solve the problem partially since I should invert it back again when playing my other vertical titles...yosai wrote:You could always invert the yoke cable on the chassis.

Re: Passing Shot "upside down"
Do you have UP and DOWN views? A split screen so to say?
Or just a single view of the field?
There's a bunch of versions of this game, all of them marked 'ROTATE 270' same as say, Futari or Espgaluda.
Your boot must have something wierd done to it, otherwise i don't know

Re: Passing Shot "upside down"
The game starts with the Passing Shot logo upside down... When you put a credit in and start it you see the P1 being in the upper right corner of the screen while it should be in the lower left. The game also awaits up to other 3 players starting their game ("insert coin" flashes on the upper left, lower left and lower right corners, this is why I'm saying it's the 4 players board).Asure wrote:Do you have UP and DOWN views? When the game finally begins I see myself on top of the screen and controls are reversed... I could only play it if I had a cocktail cab and switched sides...
Anyway no, the screen isn't split in half, you just see from above...

Re: Passing Shot "upside down"
I guess it's meant for one of those cocktail cabs that has control panels on opposing sides of the machine?

Re: Passing Shot "upside down"
Could be... But, being a boot, I wonder if any hardware modification can be done to switch the image back to normal or if I just have to deal with it and put the board awaynem wrote:I guess it's meant for one of those cocktail cabs that has control panels on opposing sides of the machine?

Re: Passing Shot "upside down"
Figure out where 3p and 4p inputs are and you could at least be on the correct side or the screen, even if it is upside down then:)
