Ketsui, Espgaluda and Daioujou Battery
Can the battery on these boards be replaced with a coincell type with battery holder?

Yes, but you can buy direct replacements from Maplin.

I'd rather get rid of the varta - worried about leaking.yosai wrote:Yes, but you can buy direct replacements from Maplin.

Oh? Doesn't this affect the PCB? I didn't realise this was an option. Would love to remove it from all of them.bloodhokuto wrote:I just ripped the battery off my ketsui and never replaced it.
Obviously a DOJ Black Label is a big no for obvious reasons

Settings like FREE PLAY etc needs to be entered on every startup. Otherwise, it's fine and safer.zak wrote:Oh? Doesn't this affect the PCB? I didn't realise this was an option. Would love to remove it from all of them.bloodhokuto wrote:I just ripped the battery off my ketsui and never replaced it.

So it will just always be default difficulty and coin operated? If so, I'm losing the battery asap!emphatic wrote:Settings like FREE PLAY etc needs to be entered on every startup. Yes. For Ketsui, make sure you have the bugfix rom to avoid the demo sequence crash. For DOJ, I think the C auto fire button isn't ON as default, but I could be wrong, I don't have a DOJ PCB. I always turn off continue and attract sound too, but that's just my preference.zak wrote:So it will just always be default difficulty and coin operated? If so, I'm losing the battery asap!

Re: Ketsui, Espgaluda and Daioujou Battery
Update:
I found some time to test a coincell holder and rechargeable 3.6v coincell battery on Ketsui.
It works!
However, as the coin cell holder is bigger/wider than the varta battery type, you have to solder the holder at the bottom of the PCB.

Re: Ketsui, Espgaluda and Daioujou Battery
Makes me wonder if I should do this for my Black Label PCB
Mostly worried about soldering while the PCB is powered on...

You don't need to do that, it's not a suicide battery.zak wrote:Mostly worried about soldering while the PCB is powered on...

DOJ BL? It's definitely a suicide battery. However, desuicide roms are available for it:

Mine still has the original first print Cave rom and sticker - would be nice to keep it that way

Re: Ketsui, Espgaluda and Daioujou Battery
I'd probably try to do it with a helper battery instead of doing it while powered on.

Re: Ketsui, Espgaluda and Daioujou Battery
Question is, where to attach the helper battery?nem wrote:I'd probably try to do it with a helper battery instead of doing it while powered on.
Helper could fall off (get de-soldered) while trying to solder the holder in place.
