Darksoft's CPS2 Multikit Tech Support Thread (No Killing B-Boards!)

Posted: June 1st, 2015, 10:07 pm
by MitsurugiW
Ok. Since everyone wanted to bring the unnecessary drama to the other thread it got locked. So this thread is for TECH SUPPORT ONLY. We have been told that everything else will be deleted. So no discussions other than how to make your kit work or talking out problems. I basically have the same type of thread over at Neo now and it has been civil and productive. Let's keep it that way here as well.

We are working on an alternative tech support option since the mods here want this to be a temporary solution. The ideas we have come up with will make things much easier in the long run so this may be a blessing in disguise.

So go ahead and begin asking tech related questions here.

Make sure you also watch the video from Mitsu about how to prepare the B board before doing anything.

Please let us know your feedback as soon as you start receiving the kits.

You can get all the information you need following this extensive guide. Let me know if you have any trouble.

The bin file can be downloaded from here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ddvky ... __0002.rar

NOTICE that the 3 resistors that you remove, you don't need to put back.

OK. So here is the final code. Please post how it works for those who updated it.

Remember that you don't need to remove the resistors anymore. Just plug, connect and update.

I'll update the instructions again.

Feedback please!

I've figured it out!! I use a Mac which uses lots of invisible files for indexing with names like ".DS_Store" which I presume confused the board when it was writing the flash memory.

In case anyone else has this issue: put the SD card back in the mac, open the terminal application and type:
Code: Select all

Code: Select all

dot_clean /Volumes/CPS2
where CPS2 is the Volume name of the SD card.

The name pack is dated to match the Avalaunch Decrypted ROM Pack, so will include long names for all games released up to that date.

My long names are limited to 16 characters, so no scrolling on the LCD. They use the following format, where ! is the game region.

Code: Select all

1944 |!
19XX |!
AlienVPredator|!
ArmoredWariors|!
Battle Circuit|!
CapSportsClub |!
Choko |!
Cyberbots |!
Darkstalkers |!
Dimahoo |!
D&DTowerOfDoom|!
D&DSoMystara |!
Eco Fighters |!
Galum Pa! |!
Giga Wing |!
GreatMahouDai |!
HyperSFII AE |!
Jyangokushi |!

Night Warriors|!
Pnickies |!
Pocket Fighter|!
Powered Gear |!
Progear |!
ProgearNoArash|!
Puzz Loop 2 |!

RockMan |!
RockMan 2 |!

SFAlpha |!
SFAlpha 2 |!
SFAlpha 3 |!
SFZero |!
SFZero 2 |!
SFZero 2 Alpha|!
SFZero 3 |!

Vampire |!
Vampire Hunter|!
VampireHunter2|!
Vampire Savior|!
VampireSavior2|!
X-Men COTA |!

This allows you to quickly and easily scan through your games on the LCD, to choose game and region.

Where necessary, the final two characters before the region break may specify differing versions where game and region are otherwise the same. For example, SSFII X Japan OP and AM versions.

Feedback with any corrections appreciated 8-)

I cut off about half of it with some sharp side cutters and then removed the rest with a Dremel.

At one point Darksoft mentioned blanking/writing the entire memory space shouldn't be needed, simply writing the actual data only...

My question is can this feature/behavior be added via Firmware/BIOS update?

Do we have a fix/workaround for SPF2's audio yet?

I'll let Darksoft answer about the bios. I'm not sure anyone has started looking at the SPF sound issue. Guess first thing would be to find out what is causing it.

I was questioning my B-board (rev 7) PAL (G) jumpers (MvC factory default matching SOOS SO OSOSOS SOSOSOSO SOSOSOSO) contact with the kit boards, basically everything...
Two other users of different setups (old thread) both reported the same strange issue (prefect sound and then nothing) I'm having, so I'm pretty much done questioning my end of things.

One thing I've been meaning to try would be setting the config menu to mono sound output (q-sound default) just to see if it holds out... Haven't gotten around to doing that yet, I'll report back later.

I received my kit yesterday. The box was nice and undamaged. Everything in it was nice and straight , no bent pins.

Installed it and everything works perfectly .

I have 2 questions ....

1) I bought the full kit and i received the long wire for the LCD screen and was wondering if it possible to order the smaller wire somewhere? It would be more pratical then the long one for now.

2) Can the kit run without the LCD connected? If i don't want to change the selected game for a while and don't want it in the way till i find a shorter wire?

Thank you for such a great product!

You could just order a 14pin IDC cable like this...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2Pcs-14-Pin-to- ... 3aa907d700

This was my included short cable...

I've since removed the top (loop holder part) from the board end to lower its profile in order to fully close the plastic shell/cover.

Once programmed the board runs that game fully, without the LCD attached. You just can't pick/flash another game without it.

I would like to find someone local to print me this...

When starting the game once the the first round has started there is no sound, no effects or music.
I entered the test menu, audio is OK when tested from the sound menu.
Changed audio settings to mono, exited to game and same fault - no sound once the first round starts

Per a post in the old thread, I went ahead and ordered one of these micro SD card extension cables off ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/261894745478?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT) so that the card can be easily removed without having to open up the case each time. I'll report back once I get it...in like a month.

There's a 12 inch you could have gotten this week (this is why "sort by distance" has been my most common option on ebay for the past year)

That includes the last few updates so really only needed for new people. Quicker to just download the individual updates otherwise.

Are those all the roms you will need or do you still need to provide the graphics and sound files as well? I ask because the naming convention seems slightly different from mame.
