system 246 battery

Post by grantspain »

I have never had this happen but whilst I was repairing a system 246 the other day I wondered what happens if the battery ever loses charge,do these units default to a bootable state or is there a setup that needs to be performed.
I thought of removing the battery and seeing what happened but then thought better get some knowledge first.

Best bet is they reset to an initial state much like when you first boot a new game on the hw and all the software settings restart.

Never tried it my self though.

Dunno if you already sorted this out but I'd say it needs some basic config after changing the battery. I'm guessing the battery in my 246 is dead because it always reports first boot on start up and all the settings are reset to default.

If it does that every time you start the machine then your battery is dead and needs to be replaced.

This is now happening to one of my Rack-c's that I just bought.
I replaced the battery, but still every time, it says:
-Fault writing backup, I then set the pedal controls,
-The game boots with ear deafening audio, so I go into service menu, set the audio to 1 Select exit
-and it goes into a reboot
-And again the Fault writing backup

There seems to be only one cr2032 battery on the rack-c.

Empty lithium batteries easily measure as good when out of the circuit, but then their voltage drops drastically when they are connected to a load. If your replacement battery is not a freshly bought one, you might want to measure the battery voltage while it's still connected into its socket.
If this doesn't help, then you should consider the possibility that the backup memory itself just died.
My 15kHz cabinet Peplos will never power up, with any item, and I am quite proud of that.
