That's a nicely done Net city/New Net city in black.
How is it ugly? Because it isn't original and white?

I've painted a few when there's been little to no choice (rust/etc). The plastic guys I just buff out as much as possible and polish (Impress- they like to yellow though, haven't painted one just yet). I have painted New Net City parts since I'm not fond of yellow/white metal two tone. I've seen some wonderful customized NNCs for sure though.
I know some people might not like it, but most of the Ponys I have are non factory colors.
I will recommend against shiny black powdercoat or paint in places that can be touched unless smudges don't bother you. White seems to hide these kinds of things really well.

Yeah, that looks great, radiant. Fixing the yellowing on my Neo 25 is going to be the last frontier on that cab. Everything else has been fixed or brought up to a spec I'm happy with. Still deciding between painting or some of the other color restoring options (non-painting).
How hard was it to pull off the monitor cover and topper?

After you get it off, just dump it in a bath of Purple Power for a day. Clean off the grime and try hitting it with a deoxidizer. Might be able to get the original finish back on the fiberglass/ plastic pieces.NoAffinity wrote:Yeah, that looks great, radiant. Re: Painted candys, any out there?
Not hard at all, just time consuming. When taking off the topper, its best to have two people. I did try to retrobright the yellow part but it wouldn't all the yellow off and the white wasn't as bright as the rest of the cab.NoAffinity wrote:Yeah, that looks great, radiant. I recommend against retrobrite, fyi- (not that you mentioned it here) but in my anecdotal evidence I swear it's made some of the plastics more brittle and stuff re-yellows after time.

I'm restoring an Astro atm. When it's fully stripped and I've got the cash I'm going to take it to an auto body shop and get the whole outside of the cab painted in appliance gloss white.
I personally think it it will look awesome.

Were you going to strip the current paint off of it first before getting the new job done? If so, what were you thinking, just using sand paper to remove it? Have you considered getting it powdered?trev1976 wrote:I'm restoring an Astro atm. Re: Painted candys, any out there?
Why would you paint it a different white than the original RAL 9002 ?trev1976 wrote:I'm restoring an Astro atm. When it's fully stripped and I've got the cash I'm going to take it to an auto body shop and get the whole outside of the cab painted in appliance gloss white.
