Grass stage in SF Zero 2 CPS2?

Post by bloodhokuto »

Hi,

Just got the CPS2 board recently and have been trying to select the grass stage in Vs mode.

Having looked online the cheat says to hold down start, select sagat for 5 seconds and then release and choose your character.

I've tried various permutations of this and have had no joy, is it not possible to select this for 2 player in the arcade versions, or is this only in the ports?

Otherwise, is there a criteria for getting to this stage against the CPU?

I thought that stage was only for Ryu VS Sagat matches?

I've tried it on emu - using the trick and selecting ryu and sagat to no avail.

I suspect that it may be the ports only, I'll have to check the PS1 version that I have.

Of course I could be **** up the timing or summat.

You have to start a 1 player game, then come in with the other player (here comes a new challenger). Hold down start, move to Sagat, count to 5, move to the character you want to use, release start, press a button. 8-)

You can also get the waterfall stage by counting to 5 on bison (vega in jp).

I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what.

I quickly tried it on emulator (alpha 2) and got nowhere with your suggestion Spectre. Is it fussy about the length of the 5 seconds or something? Have you got it to work yourself?

Yes, have done it on the real hardware and just checked on emulation. Make sure you press start to come in with the second player, then press again and hold before moving to sagat.

To be honest it really isn't, not sure why BH can't get it to work. Maybe it only works on Zero 2 (not Alpha 2)?

If you just want to see what the stage looks like, an easier way is to fire up Zero2Alpha, put a credit in, hold medium punch and medium kick then press start. Good luck surviving very long against Shin Gouki tho

You can also get that stage in vanilla Zero 2 by facing Shin Gouki, but you have to do it the hard way (iirc lots of perfects, don't lose a round etc).

It must be me being a muppet, dunno whats going on. :(

I have the Zero 2 CPS2 (not zero 2 alpha) and had no joy this evening, and I have been trying Alpha 2 on Mame OSX and no beans either.

Bearing in mind that it took me about 30 attempts to get the raging demon move working when I first tried it, you can get the jist of just how monkey handed I am.

Never mind, I'll have to try again another day.

I just tried with a Zero 2 board. No problem.

It doesn't have to be perfect timing. It works with Mississippi seconds and Capcom seconds (which are about half a Mississippi second).

I followed Spectre's instruction, but incase it helps I'll go over exactly what I did...
  • Inserted coin and started a 1-player game with Ryu.
  • Waited for the match to begin then punched Birdie a couple of times.
  • Inserted another coin.
  • tapped 2p start (and released the button as normal).
  • Waited a few seconds until the character select screen was fully ready (Ken highlighted).
  • pressed 2p start again, and kept holding it.
  • Tapped joy2 down twice, highlighting Sagat (still holding 2p start).
  • Counted to 5 (still holding 2p start).
  • Tapped joy2 up once, highlighting Zangeif (still holding 2p start).
  • Let go of 2p start.
  • Tapped 2p button1 to select Zangeif.
  • Tapped 2p button1 a couple more times to select manual block and turbo speed.
  • The match began and this happened...

If that doesn't work then I dunno blood. :eh:

Temperamental start button?

Right, I'll give it one more go ... then maybe you can show me at the HOG if they still have the alpha 2 set up on the Versus cities.

In the meantime, I just saw what happens if you go to three rounds on the Birdie stage.

I just tried it out on FBA out of curiosity and got it working without any problems. Basically I did just what pubjoe did. I used the Euro Alpha 2 ROM.

Cheers chaps!

Good point Pubjoe, turns out that one of the spade connectors on P2 start was barely hanging on, when I flipped the panel up it just came off. :-o

I was still wasn't sure it would work, so thought I would record it ... then; :awe:

Just seem something interesting ...

I mentioned being quite amused at Birdie's stage, but it was only after watching a linked video after I uploaded mine (of SFZ2A mind), that I noticed that in vs CPU, seemingly depending on how you are doing (or is it random?) there are some additional goings on for this stage (perhaps others too)?

- namely the loo doors opening, this does not happen as far as I recall whilst playing two player.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-UF0pMcip8&t=25s" - This one has this feature for both rounds.

I also saw something similar in another vid this time of Alpha 2;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vPc4wPFcTc&t=6m10s" - Only for the second round on this one.

Jesus, time to go to bed methinks!

Dodgiest toilet ever.

I think the opening bog doors are triggered by super moves.

Yeah done some testing;

P1 super = left toilet door opens.
P2 super = right toilet door opens.

The P2 super in round 1 shows the 'individual' that is shown in round 3 (when that door is permanently open).

Not sure what happens in the other stages, although the guy in the centre of Ken's stage holding a cat or puppy throws it up into the air.

That's Strider...

http://streetfightermiscellany.com/sfm/sfm4.html"
apcom are well known for having their characters make cameo appearances in other games. This is typified in Ken's Street Fighter Alpha 2 stage where many of the guests at Eliza's birthday party are dressed as Capcom characters, old and new. From left to right the characters are: Lord Raptor, Hsien-Ko and Mei-Ling from Darkstalkers, the two Unknown Soldiers from Forgotten Worlds, Morrigan Aensland (Darkstalkers), Jumbo Flapjack and Biff Slamkovich (Saturday Night Slam Masters), Eliza (Ken's wife), Ginzu and Captain Commando from Captain Commando, Michelle Heart (Legendary Wings), Strider Hiryu (Strider), Linn Kurosawa (Aliens Vs. Predator), Felicia (Darkstalkers) and Pure the Mage from Capcom World 2. The person dressed as Strider throws and catches the bear he is holding whenever a super move is performed! The butler on the extreme right is none other than Kenzo Tsujimoto, Capcom CEO and chairman.
