Good crt tv for supergun?

Postby seibuuk » March 17th, 2012, 12:40 pm

Ive got a Supernova supergun currently being shipped out to me - want your verdicts on a good crt tv to use it with?

I purchased a cheap jvc crt but it flickers with most of the boards i am trying it with using an old vogatek mk1. Ironically, most of the bootlegs play fine on it. I wad lookinh at the old black sony tv widescreen but want some ideas first. Am i better with a crt or the newer crt flatscreen models?

Cheers gents
Some boards I own: Seibu Cup Soccer,SSFII, SFII M5 Hack,Parodius DA!,WWF Wrestlefest, Major Titile,Major Title 2,Golfing Greats,The Simpsons,Euro League

Steer clear of widescreen. Can't really go wrong with an Sony trinitron 26/28" or Toshiba.I still use today an old Sony 26" that spent the first 12yrs of it's life on it's side.I think it might out live me :awe:

Depends on what you want to do with it, I suppose.
I have a broadcast monitor because they have outs for every in so I can record gameplay.
I also have found them to be sturdier than normal TVs when in TATE.

I've still got a 29" Sony Flatscreen CRT. Best CRT I've ever seen for a SG. Yours if you want to collect it. :awe:

That's not that far... Worth travelling twice that for a free Trinitron.

Most def worth the trip imo. If I had a car I would drive down and take that tv off Andy's hands. Widescreen is cack go for one that is 4:3, much better. I have a 21 inch Sony Triniton and it is dope, it works great with my cmvs.
Starks is always out.

+1 for broadcast monitors, they generally handle geometry and sync differences better than a tv too.

Sony are good as they have a service menu to adjust geometry & overscan.

I would keep your eye out for a 4:3 Sony trinitron the silver coloured ones are the newer models and the black ones are the older models. As others have said avoid any widescreen models. I don't know if these are best crt's but I had one and it looked fantastic, sadly it broke last year.

I have a little Panasonic which cost about £10 from one of the chairity shops that sells furnature and electricals and it does the job but it isn't a patch on the Sony I had. I keep popping in those types of shops as if they do seem to get a lot Sony trinitrons in, but every time I've been in they have only had the larger models and I'm only after a small (14" - 21" max) to replace the Panasonic.

Was hoping to jump into this thread with some great dvice.. but it seems it is the same as everyone elses... definitely a Sony Trinitron.

Mine is a Pure Flat 26"... one of the later models. Sadly it is only mono but that suits Jamma just fine. 8-)
I got it for free a few years back too, keep your eyes open as there are alot of people who just want rid of them for nothing.

My 21" Hitachi (silver) Pure Flat is great so would recommend one to. The RGB is fantastic, especially with import consoles like SNES/SFC and Vogatek supergun set-up. Will be looking for a Sony Trinitron to as I keep hearing good things 8-) . Avoid Samsung CRTs as the RGB is shi#

I find Gumtree's great for finding CRTs. If you wade through all the widescreens and knackered tellies you can usually find some good 4:3 CRTs. I picked up a 29" 4:3 Toshiba for £40 last year and it's like new - it had sat in someone's spare lounge since new and hardly been used. The screen's excellent and the service menu has tweaks for everything. I had a Sony Trinitron before the Tosh and agree that they're exceptionally good.

Panasonic CRTs were considered the pinnacle iirc, back in the day.

The Quintrix sets are quite good, but the Trinitron is definitely the pinnacle of CRT televisions.

I am surprised to hear negative comments about LG, I have a 51cm Flatron and the picture quality on it is absolutely brilliant.
