Two ways of doing it. One - buy a JVS I/O and produce a control wiring harness for that, and provide power etc. The second is to buy/build a regular supergun, and a JVS/JAMMA I/O like the Capcom one. The latter seems saner to me.

Hey, sorry to steal an existing topic.

Has anybody tried making a JVS supergun? I'm mostly interested in the I/O portion of the supergun. I was thinking of buying a Sega JVS Driver I/O board from ebay and writing it into an old arcade stick I have in the closet.

I found the wiring diagram online for a sega JVS I/O but my question is, Does the I/O PCB need a +5/+12 power line passed to it if it's only being used for Digital input (and not analog)?

As for why a JVS over Jamma, I already have a Jamma cab (which I have setup at work) and I was looking to be able to just play Sys246/naomi games at home since I'll have a spare Sys246 pcb soon. I also want to make the joystick portion self contained like if it was just some normal PC stick (with the USB wire coming out to be plugged into the PCB).

I'm using a regular supergun for my Naomi. I'm using my LCD, so I'm just using a regular sega jamma I/O to handle controls. Granted I only get 5 buttons that way, but that's enough for most games

I know that can be done but I feel it's a waste to build up a full Jamma supergun when I am only looking looking to run JVS stuff. As well a JVS I/O PCB looks easy as **** to deal with and for power I can just simply buy up a JVS PSU and not have to do anything with it. :mrgreen:

As well the stick i'm looking to mod up is a Pelican real arcade pro. So there is more then enough space to hide all the wiring inside for the I/O (I also have happs parts sitting around to swap out the stick/buttons with).

If I go a Jamma route. I will have to build a box a box to hide all the stuff or I will have to teather the PSU to the stick. If the only wire is simply a USB-B cable I can cheaply get one that will give me any length I need so the PSU & Naomi/Sys246 can just sit off to the side where my PC monitor is. =P

Here is the wiring info for the sega JVS I/O

I've seen a few of the I/O boards for sale on ebay with the needed digital harness.

When I want to use Naomi carts on my supergun I set the Naomi to 15Khz and connect it to the SG using either a Sega V2 or Capcom i/o as both have audio amps built-in.

Problem is you can't get enough power out of the JVS->JAMMA convertor to run the GD-ROM so I use an ATX PSU and ATX->JVS power convertor to power the Naomi & gd-rom.

Small update. After so many weeks, I finally got my JVS Supergun 80% done. The setup is 100% functional and I can play JVS software fine. The remaining 20% to do is cleanup as it's a bit of a mess at the moment.

My setup so far is the following
* JVS PSU
* JVS IO
* CGA/EGA/VGA 2 VGA (My LCD monitor does not support the video feed from my 246)
* Modified Pelican Stick (gutted internals and installed new buttons & sticks, wired with a JVS IO digital harness)
* JVS Arcade Board (in this case a namco System 246)
* Few modified wires (Stolen PSP Power plug wired to JVS IO +5v in Plug to power the IO, Stolen JVS +12v wire pluged into the JVS +5v out port to power the Video upscaler).

Over all it was not all that hard to build. My biggest issue came from having to wait each week for a new part (as this was a learning experience). Over all the

I thought system 246/256 supported VGA from the board itself without the extra board necessary. I know Naomi supports VGA.

It does. But... Not all LCDs can support the required resolution at 31khz. CRTs can but LCDs can be a hit or miss.

Hence the reason I have the extra PCB. It's made for upscaling any 15/31khz image up to something that will work on most LCDs/HDTVs. =)

My Naomi-2 wouldn't sync on my old Samsung LCD so I fed the output of the Naomi through my XRGB-2 and - perfect, it even has the option of adding scanlines.

It would be nice in the future to get a XRGB-2 or XRGB-3 as the image quality on those should be really nice compared to this cheapo pcb. =P
