Is this a suitable setup for a MAME PC using ArcadeVGA?

Post by Cauterize »

Hey y'all,

Finally getting round to giving my Jaleco Pony IV the gear it deserves, however, I have to say I am completely out of the loop when it comes to PC specs. WIth that in mind i was wondering if any of you could advise if the following setup would work okay? The plan is to use a mini PC to fit it inside the cab.
  • Intel 4th Generation Core i5 (4690) 3.5GHz Quad Core Processor 6MB L3 Cache (OEM)
    2x Kingston ValueRAM 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 1600MHz Non-ECC 240-pin DIMM Memory Module SR x8
Asus H81I-PLUS Motherboard Core i7/i5/i3/Pentium/Celeron 1150 H81 Mini ITX Gigabit LAN (Integrated Graphics)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 1TB Hard Drive (7200rpm) SATA 64MB (Internal)
    CCL Choice 22x DVD+/-RW Drive
Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced Mini ITX Chassis with Aluminum Front Panel (Black)
Corsair CX600M Builder Series 600 Watt ATX Modular Power Supply Unit
+ the ArcadeVGA PCI Express Card too.

The plan is to have the computer running Hyperspin, along with enough power to run stuff like Ikaruga.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Adam

Screw the ArcadeVGA. Go down the CRT_EmuDriver and ATOM-15 route. Also screw HyperSpin :)

Everything else is good. Ikaruga is on Steam, as is Crimson Clover, neither of which need particularly fancy GPUs.

Lots, look up GroovyMAME and the other stuff I mentioned. The BYOAC forum has all the necessary stuff.

Work is also being done on newer GPUs, but that's a way off yet.

Be warned, GroovyUME may make you sell most of your console collection ;)

Haha don't say that! It would take a lot for me to part with my console stuff, but I'll never say never ;)

Thanks for the help!

Good hardware setup Adam. Just make sure you get a 64bit OS and a 64bit build of MAME.

Cheers,

Ralph.
