Are you using fake scan lines? If so, MK on 480p will be scaled and look terrible. A picture speaks a thousand words.

In the mame.ini gamma is is set to .7 as per the guide.

I set this to .8 and things looks good.

Cool, yeah using thé fa ke scanlines on 31k for all groovymame stuff.

Any suggestions on how to improve the image of those upscaled games while stating on 31k and fake scanlines.

What resolution is it actually running in?

The gamma setting is a decent default, there are plenty of games its no good for though - Midway stuff especially. Adjust it in game and the setting gets saved.

Good. Just adjust gamma/brightness/contrast in the game until it looks good.

Thanks cools, so the Mk info looks right?

I went at the pots again and think I have a nice image for the front end and many non midway games with gamma at .7.

Adjusting each Mk game gamma to .9 or 1 gets them looking sparkly.

I'm quite out of touch with the mame scene. Do the latest binaries support Cave SH-3? I know it was added for about a day at one point, then swiped away again. I have the old release that does support them, but it's not groovy of course.

Deathsmiles runs crap and with some kind of hobbled character select in Groovy. The older version I have runs much better, but still crap.

I can't remember what the exact CPU I have is, I think its an Athlon 64 X2.

Third Strike is great though. A lot of my roms are out of date now and don't work however. :(

Deathsmiles works pretty well for me. I think it must CPU grunt.
I would be curious to see if Win7 helps or hinders the situation with Groovy. Has anyone done a comparison?

i have reformatted both pcs and set them up for GM with mixed results so looking for a little advice again regarding video-modes...

the first machine has a c2d8400 running a radeon hd4350 in vertical orientation - i did everything in the guide (i think anyway) and when i went to arcade OSD there were very few 15khz modes, literally only 3 or 4, and none were my usual 480x640 resolution. I was able to switch to 480x640 15khz however using quickrez. everything seems to work fine and the games look great - no tearing, resolutions seems fine in game.

the second machine has an AMD X2 6000 running a Radeon HD4350 in horizontal - when i run arcadeOSD on that there are loads and loads of 15khz resolutions and i can set it up on the arcade monitor no trouble - again, everything seems to work fine and the games work great.

so, my question is this - surely with the same graphics card and OS (both running XP64) the results in arcadeOSD should be the same? in which case something would appear to have gone wrong on the vertical system. However, everything seems to be working great - i managed to compile my own GMs which was nice - so will GM do its thing regardless of what arcadeOSD says - when i ran VMMAKER it found the same amount of modes in both and seemed to do the same stuff.

Chubsta, I have a feeling your vmmaker.INI file is wrong on the vertical setup. Are you rotating the Windows desktop? Upload the INI files for vmmaker and mame somewhere

sussed it - had a few more goes at running VMMAKER and worked out that i was going wrong by setting the orientation to vertical with irotate between the steps of running vmmaker and arcadeosd. of course i didn't do that with the horizontal cab so thats why that worked fine. when i just ran them without rotating i got all the 15khz modes.

now have it all set up great and am pretty impressed - i upgraded to ssd drives and overlocked both machines so everything is running a lot snappier than my old set ups - the c2d8400 runs everything i want it to, the athlon 6000 @3.4ghz is still slower than i would like but i guess any upgrades can wait a while...

Just switched to hori mode but Track & Field / Hyper Olympic are not in the list.
Had a look in attract/romlists/mame.txt and find no evidence of them at all :S

cools, do you have them? Any chance I can get your mame.txt list?
