PC boot up time

Post by markedkiller78 »

Possibly the wrong section, but I'm sure all you Mame whores will know your way round a pc.

Is there any way to speed up a motherboards initial post checks before booting?

Windows 8 takes about 5 seconds to boot, but my motherboard takes a good 10+ seconds to power up, then another 10 secs to run all its checks.

How come my laptop completes the power & post cycle in about 3 secs?

The motherboard in question is an EVGA P55 FTW. If the answer is tough, then I think I'll finally grab an ivybridge CPU & Mobo.

Enter the BIOS and disable all of the checks?

Ta,

If I can get the boot time a bit quicker, I'll stick with my current rig until the 4th Gen i5 (or what ever replaces it) comes out.

I avoided Sandybridge intentionally & Ivybridge is just more of the same.

I had it all off already :(

I've shortened the time out period, but the main issue is a 5 second delay before the board powers. I think it's the motherboard itself. It has all this useless overclocking crap (sub zero & the like)

I'm running an i5 760 @4.0ghz, with 8gb 1666mhz Ram, so a move to SB or IB will make little to no noticable difference.

I'll just have to suck it up I guess.
