mame in a new astor city arcade

Post by kingka »

HI I'm some what new to this.
I have been looking all over the web on how to run mame in a new astro city cab,
so it can look just like the real arcade pcb.
I have mame running but it does not look right.
I have a J-pac with a arcadevga 3000 card running win7.

If any one can help point me to the right direction or help me out, I would really appreciate it.

thanks :D

When I'm playing any games, the frame skips as the game is running. from up to down.
I'm running mame at 640x 260.
It's a line that is envisable but you can notice it,
as it moves a small part of the frame.

Sync is on, I'm running mame UI32 0.140.

So far I been play with it and found that by turning on (sync to monitor refresh) the lines go away.

Is this the way it's meant  to be run with an arcade monitor?

you will want to take a look at your mame.ini and set it accordingly.. the three main things to get games looking like 1:1 pixel perfect with mame on a 15k monitor are..

set video to ddraw, turn on switchres and turn off hardware stretch.. your mame.ini should look like this..

#
# VIDEO OPTIONS
#
video ddraw
numscreens 1
window 0
maximize 1
keepaspect 1
prescale 1
effect none
pause_brightness 0.65
waitvsync 0
syncrefresh 0
#
# DIRECTDRAW-SPECIFIC OPTIONS
#
hwstretch 0
#
# FULL SCREEN OPTIONS
#
triplebuffer 0
switchres 1

set your desktop at 640x480.

if you have done as i suggested above and switched on switch res, turned off hardware stretch and set video to ddraw all in the mame.ini.. then whn you load a game in mame, it wil play at native resolution and look spot on.

however, because many games play at different res's, you will constantly be adjusting the monitor screen size.. to avoid this, we want to find a good generic setting for your monitor.. for this i use cps games.. load up any cps(2) game, (sf2 for example) and set the size of your screen to fit using the pots on your monitor remote board. i find this to be a good generic size that will fit most games nicely.

I have done all then steps.
but when I when I run 640x480, the monitor ficker a little.
but running it on 640x288 is much better and stable.

and I got to say it runs really sweet!!!!

thank you and every one else for all the help.

now I'm wondering is it best to downgrading to xp,
to get the full power of the arcade vga3000. :D

Erm.... When using mame, all your gfx card does output video. All graphics in mame are run by your CPU not the graphics card gpu.
You are far better off with a cheaper more powerful gfx card and soft-15khz instead of a low power but expensive arcadeVGA card.

Im glad you got it sorted.
