Re: Sonic Mania, new 2D sidescrolling Sonic game (PS4/XB1/PC)

Chances must be very low for a physical release turning up after the collector's boxed eshop code's been and gone.

Re: Sonic Mania, new 2D sidescrolling Sonic game (PS4/XB1/PC)

:awe: 90s time machine. Sonic's been on at mine all afternoon. It's fantastic. I love how the Act 2's are jazzed up and I love the bosses. It's one of the few games that's kept me, my nearly 15 year old and nearly 5 year old sons equally entertained. It's as good as people like to remember Sonic - w...

Re: "Indie Games". What are your favourites?

The PCs in your cabs? Edit: http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?p=227247187 Decided to try to play this on my MAME candy cab. Got it going at 480i with some flicker that I could limit with tweaking v-hold. I then got the idea that maybe it just runs at the desktop resolution and used quickres to swit...

Like VVVVVV? The creator describes himself as having no drawing skills, yet he's definitely artistic. It looks great.

Seeing what makes it to console is a pretty good **** filter. There's still plenty of ****, but it's a better ratio.

Re: "Indie Games". What are your favourites?

I always imagined games in general being made by 1-5 people. Must be deflating to land a job of your dreams this millennia and end up being one of the twelve people aligning brick wall textures. It must be so hard for big budget games to nurture any kind of creative process. It's no wonder they're a...

Re: "Indie Games". What are your favourites?

Let's go with that. I like to think that too, and I think that's typically what the term describes. Though it sometimes isn't the case either.

Re: "Indie Games". What are your favourites?

They were more indie than "indie games" I guess. The definition is stretched even more in games than in music. And then you have stuff that starts out independently published, but gets contracted or sold on. Games don't stop being developed at release anymore. You can't get any less indie ...

Re: "Indie Games". What are your favourites?

I agree about Shovel Knight. Nath would like to buy the £20 Switch bundle but I won't let him. Is there / will there be anything extra over the Wii U version with all the free content downloaded?

I'd like the game on Switch myself but there's no incentive. A cheap physical release would do it.

Re: "Indie Games". What are your favourites?

Not sure. Only played it for a few minutes - many years after its release - and it didn't grab me.

Maybe you have to consider that it was first released in 2004. This sort of expanded retro platformer has been redone a lot in Indie games. Perhaps we just have higher expectations now.

Re: Anyone stroking themselves over the PS4 launch announcement?

I read that they wanted to normalise ****'s control over all the games, but you end up playing levels that were designed for Crash 1's jump physics with Crash 3's jump physics. I can't imagine why they thought that'd be a good idea. If you buy a collection of games, you want to experience each game ...

Re: Console Exclusive Arcade Style Games

Sorry for the Mario derail Toni. I'm really interested in what defines an arcade game. I've probably said this before but I like to think that it's mostly: Arcade games are designed to beat you. Homo games are designed to be beaten. Although it probably took over a decade post-arcade for home games ...

Re: Console Exclusive Arcade Style Games

Definitely arcade "style" but the generosity of lives is a big arcade no-no.

I guess that really started happening with 3 and exploded with World.
